Janet Stanworth Pearson

JanetPearson2.webJanet Ann Stanworth Pearson, age 69, cherished mother and “grandma” to so many, died at home unexpectedly on January 9, 2014. She was born on August 11, 1944 in Heber City, Utah, the third child and only daughter of the late Duane and Illa Stanworth. After living a brief time in Mapleton, the family settled on a farm in Oasis, or “Shangri-La”, as they called it. She graduated from Delta High School, but not before her beauty caught the boys’ eyes. However, her heart belonged to only one: Don Stephan Pearson. They married on September 11, 1962 in Oasis.

As a young couple, they worked and went to school in Salt Lake, Provo, Ogden and Tooele. After starting a family, they returned to Delta to work on the Pearson farm. Those busy years found Janet working full time, at various jobs, eventually excelling as the first woman hired as an apprentice electrician at the Delta Autovon.

She also found time to sing with her beloved “Blue Notes”, and in the Messiah Chorus while continuing to devote herself to helping her family, friends and the community. She was forever changed by that dark day in 1983 when the Sevier River flooded, destroying her home and most possessions. It was that event that helped to focus her selflessness and compassion for others.

In the last decade, she enjoyed traveling around the country with family, and celebrating her and Steve’s 51st wedding anniversary. But of all of her accomplishments, she would say that her best ones were her grandchildren.

Janet is survived by her husband: Steve Pearson of Delta; children: Cindy Lou (Tal) of Oakland California; Russell of Salt Lake City; brothers: David (Joyce) of West Jordan; Rex (RaeMi) of Lindon; best friend and youngest brother: Jim (Cherie) of Cedar City; grandchildren: Felicia (Ty) of Delta; Alexa of Meadow; Cole and Flynn of Oakland, California; Kael of Delta; and one special great-grandchild, Demi Brae, who came into the world one day after Janet left it; also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents: Duane and Illa Stanworth; and brother: Maxwell E. Stanworth.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Nickle Mortuary Chapel, 190 South Center, Delta. A viewing will precede the services from 12:30-1:40 PM.
