Halley Kay Young Williams

HalleyWilliams2.webHalley Kay Young Williams was born June 28, 1948 in Ely, Nevada to Eugene Wilkin and Nayon Cahoon Young. She passed away in St. George, Utah on April 26, 2014, from complications of a stroke.

She attended elementary school in Hinckley, Delta Junior High School, and one year at Delta High School, before the family moved back to Ely, where Halley graduated from White Pine High and then went on to attend Dixie College in St. George, Utah. Halley enjoyed singing, dancing and acting in plays during her school years. With her talents and out-going personality, Halley made many friends at college. Joyce Dansie, a classmate at Dixie, became a life-time friend and confidant, no matter how many miles divided them.

Halley married Bruce Hersh and they lived in Utah, Illinois, Nebraska and Wyoming before settling in Rexburg, Idaho with their three daughters. While there, Halley worked at Artco Press and also taught singing to children. In 1990, they divorced and Halley continued working and finished raising her girls.

In 1997, Halley was married to Russ Williams and they moved to Delta to care for her aging parents. In 2003, they became house-parents at Extended Family Services in Spanish Fork, Utah. Halley then became the house-mother for the girls division, and worked hard to make a difference for the troubled teens under her care.

Her greatest joys in life were her three girls and ten grandchildren. She encouraged them to develop their talents and loved to attend their programs and performances. She liked board games and jigsaw puzzles and loved to crochet, making beautiful afghans for each of her grandchildren.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and especially enjoyed her music callings. She also loved to read the scriptures, and taught her children and grandchildren through example.

Halley was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her devoted husband: Russ, and his children: Josh, Amy, Martha, Molly and Evan Williams; daughters: Kacie Hersh, Brooke (Shayne) Pugh, Amidey (Gary) Anglesey; 18 grandchildren; sister: Maralee (Richard) Ohran and brothers: David (Janeal) Young and Danny (Lorna) Young.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 2, at 11:00 AM, at the Sutherland 1st Ward Chapel, 2620 North 3000 West, Delta, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday, 9:00-10:40 AM, prior to services. Burial will be in the Hinckley Cemetery.
