Keith Ernest Hoggard

Keith Ernest Hoggard, age 84, passed away at the VA hospital in Salt Lake City Utah, on June 13, 2014 with family close by. Keith was born February 2, 1930 in Tooele, Utah, oldest son of Willburn Eldredge and Harriet Violet Mann Hoggard. He married Mary Lou Duckett, on September 6, 1952, in Monticello, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 6, 1977. She passed away January 11, 2013.

He is survived by 2 daughters and 5 sons: Connie Patterson, Peggy (Harvey) Poss, Michael K (Celia) Hoggard, Kenneth D (Jan) Hoggard, W Rick (Marsha) Hoggard, Steven W (Mary) Hoggard, L Kirk (Jayleen) Hoggard; daughter-in-law: Denise (Steve) Martin; and his sister: Wilma Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, wife and one son: Kim L Hoggard.

Keith will be missed by his children, 26 grandchildren, and 43 great-grandchildren. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Keith served in various callings including Sunday School, and Home Teaching. He also enjoyed participating in scouting with his sons.

He worked as a diesel mechanic, hauled ore, and drove for Continental Trailways for 25 years. He built, owned and managed the family restaurant “Hogies” with his wife in Monticello, Utah. He also built and managed his logging business and later worked for the College of Eastern Utah starting a truck driving program.

Keith earned his pilot license and enjoyed flying. He had a love for wood working and became an accomplished cabinet builder.

He was also a veteran of the United States Army and his family would like to thank the VA Hospital and the wonderful staff for their kindness, compassion, and loving care.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 21, at 11:00 AM, at the Monticello 3rd Ward LDS Chapel, 165 S. Main St, in Monticello. Viewings will be held Thursday evening from 7-8 PM at the Nickle Mortuary, Delta; and Saturday morning at the church, 9:30-10:40 AM. Burial will be in the Monticello City Cemetery.
