Mary Lou Rawlinson Western

MaryLouWestern2.webOur beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary Lou Rawlinson Western, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2015 in Lehi, Utah. Our hearts rejoice at the reunion she is having with her eternal companion Harold and 2 children, Linda and Robert.

Mary Lou was born on May 15, 1931, in Los Angeles, CA, to Claude Fisk and Irene Steele Rawlinson.  The family later moved to Delta, Utah. Mary Lou was very active in many clubs and committees and served as editor for the High School Yearbook during her senior year. She graduated from Delta High School in 1949.

After high school Mary Lou stayed in Delta and worked as a telephone operator. It wasn’t long before she met her tall, dark and handsome, Harold Floyd Western. On September 15, 1950, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had 13 children. She also fostered a son, George Williams, through the Indian Placement Program. Her life was centered on raising her family and doing the things she loved: singing, sewing, gardening, cake decorating, visiting with grandchildren and her many friends. She made everyone feel welcome in their home. The family lived in many different places during their marriage: Provo, Utah; Phoenix, Arizona; Salt Lake City, Utah; and finally retiring to Deseret, Utah.  Mary Lou had the opportunity to travel throughout the world with Harold - they toured the islands of the South Pacific, and traveled to faraway places such as Israel, Egypt, Italy and Mexico.

Mary Lou was a lifelong, faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Her testimony never wavered and she found great joy in serving others. She served in many callings in the church. After Harold’s retirement, Mary Lou and Harold served in the Texas, Houston Mission and as workers in the Manti Temple.  She was also an active member of The Daughters of The Utah Pioneers.

Mary Lou touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed.

Mary Lou is survived by her brother:  Myron Rawlinson (Carol); sister-in-law: Irene Rawlinson; children: Marcia Bartlett (Sammie), Anne Stoddard (Stephen), Richard Western (Teresa), Pauline Marble (Dave), Dorene Kitras (Zissis), Samuel Western (Laura), MaryLou Wakamatsu (Lincoln), David Western (Jan), Susan Quirantes, Joseph Western (Jeneece), Rebecca Loveless (Sam). She also leaves behind 52 grandchildren, and 75 (and counting) great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband: Harold; children: Linda and Robert; 3 brothers: Neil, Hal and Melvin; sister-in-laws: Joyce, Phyllis and Verdene; sister: Naomi; and her parents: Claude and Irene.

The family would like to thank the staff and loving aides at The Bee Hive Homes of Lehi and Envision Home Health and Hospice who helped care for Mom.

Funeral services will be held at the Deseret-Oasis LDS Meetinghouse at 3423 W 4500 S, Deseret, UT, on Saturday, January 31, at 12:30 PM.  Viewing will be held at the church prior to the funeral, 10 AM-12:10 PM. Interment will be at the Deseret Cemetery.
