Elmer Woodrow Toms, Jr.

Elmer Woodrow Toms, Jr., age 71, of Delta, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2015, in Delta, Utah. He was born August 1, 1943, in Le Gore, Maryland to Elmer Woodrow Toms, Sr. and Aldenia Elizabeth Engle Toms. He grew up in a family of 13 children as a true farm boy. He never wore his shoes, except when he was required to for school. He had a knack with machinery. He could fix anything with a motor. In 1961, a month shy of his 18the birthday, he enlisted in the US Navy. After returning from his service, he met Ina Darlene Schwartzbeck, and they soon married. They had two children, Pamela and Elmer III.

He worked as a large engine mechanic for several large companies. He moved his family to Montana. After 13 years, Elmer and Ina divorced. Elmer left Montana and moved to Ogden, Utah to where he opened his own boat shop. Soon after he met and married Della Lou Dixon, and they moved the family to Magna. Della passed away on July 15, 2003. In 2006, he moved to Delta, Utah.

Elmer loved the outdoors, boating and fishing. His favorite activity was catching catfish on Utah Lake. He loved his animals, caring for many cats, dogs and fish over the years.

He is survived by his children: Pam (Allen) Hardy; Elmer Woodrow Toms III; granddaughter: Kristie Miller; great granddaughters: Natalee, Katrina, Brooklynn; sisters: Lena, Frannie, Daisy, Barbie, Patty, Carolyn, Dottie; brothers: Robert, Charlie. He was preceded in death by his wife: Della; brother: Donald; sisters: Mary, Ruth Ilene.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
