Marjorie Ann Murry Cox

MarjorieCox2.webMarjorie Ann Murry Cox, our beloved wife, sister, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the age of 78 after an extended battle with several health challenges.

Marjorie was born on March 28, 1938 in Provo, Utah to Lacy and Mark Murry. Mom was raised by her grandparents, LaRue (affectionately known as Grandma Me) and Art Williams. She was known to say that “God’s greatest gift to her was her goodly grandparents.”

Mom attended grade school and high school in Provo where she graduated in 1956. During her junior year of high school she met the love of her life, LaVar Cox. They married on March 16, 1956 shortly after mom graduated from high school. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 14, 1958. Mom and dad moved to Delta in 1964 for dad’s employment with AT&T.

One of mom’s favorite “career paths” was her catering business. She absolutely loved to make wedding cakes and throw a grand party for any wedding couple who would let her. Mom had a real love of cooking and baking as many people on our community can attest. She also loved to entertain and was well known for her creative and unique parties. Mom was a creative writer and had a masterful way of saying things in a clever and appropriate way, all with her signature rhyming.

Mom worked for Millard School district for over 20 years and retired in 2007. Mom served in many capacities in the LDS church including a mission with dad to Tallahassee, Florida from 2011 to 2013.

Marjorie is survived by her husband: LaVar; brother: Mark (Carlene) Murry of Layton, Utah; children: Kevin (Paula) Cox of American Fork, Utah; Craig (Janet) Cox of Sandy, Utah; Cori (Rob) Manis of Hinckley, Utah; Christy Brooks (Charlie Johnson) of Stockton, California; Kelly (Tonia) Cox, Quincy, Illinois; 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 4, at 11:00 a.m., at the Delta West LDS Stake Center, 188 North Main, Hinckley. Viewings will be held Sunday, 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Nickle Mortuary, 190 S Center, Delta; and Monday, 9:00-10:40, prior to the service. Interment will be in the Hinckley City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, mom has requested that contributions be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Perpetual Education Fund. Online condolences may be left at www.nicklemortuary.com
