Vernell Stewart Dutson

Vernell Stewart Dutson, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Millard Care and Rehabilitation Center in Delta, Utah on Sunday, June 19, 2016. She was born January 7, 1935 in Meadow, Utah to Edgar J. And Beatrice Vernell Bushnell Stewart.

Mom grew up in Meadow, where she attended Millard High School. She graduated in 1953. Shortly after graduation, Mom and Dad (Calvin Jay Dutson) met when Uncle Max Bennett told Dad he had a beautiful girl in Meadow he should meet. They went deer hunting together. They were married a short three months later in the Manti LDS Temple on January 7, 1954, her 19th birthday. They picked Vernell’s birthday so Calvin would always remember the date. They made their home in Oak City, Utah. She always said Oak City and Meadow were so much alike, she felt right at home. Together they were blessed with 8 children.

Mom loved all her family, and took great pride and enjoyment in being a mother. As a family, they enjoyed camping in the Oak City canyon every year. She enjoyed her flowers and roses and helping Dad cutting and bailing hay on the farm. She even helped Dad with the cattle.

Mother never met a person she didn’t like or couldn’t talk to. She spent many hours making soup and bread for the sick and elderly in Oak City. Her life was always one of service to her family and community. Mother was a member of the LDS Church where she served many years as a teacher and a leader, and always had a strong testimony of its truthfulness.

Preceded in death by spouse: Calvin Jay Dutson; son: Jay Emery Dutson; and son-in-law: Ed Owens. She leaves behind sons: Stewart Dutson of Delta; Larry (Denise) Dutson of Delta; Rawlin (Julie) Dutson of Oak City; daughters: Jeanene Owens of Sutherland; Janice (Ron) Daniels of Spokane, WA; Mira (Alan) Roper of Delta; Peggy (Jasin) Kooyman of Oak City; sister: Edith (Tom) Cramer of Tooele. She had many grandchildren and great-grandkids she enjoyed spending time with and spoiling.

Our family thanks the staff at the Millard Care and Rehabilitation Center for all the love and care they showed our mother.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 25, 11:00 am, at the Oak City LDS Chapel, 35 E. Center St. Viewings will be held Friday, 7:00-8:00 pm, at the Nickle Mortuary; and Saturday, 9:30-10:40 am, prior to the service. Burial will be in the Oak City Cemetery.
