Virginia Chapman Alley

VirginiaAlley2.webVirginia Chapman Alley, age 96, our loving mother, grandmother and friend passed from this life on August 3, 2016 in Delta, Utah, surrounded by her cherished family. She was born, the oldest of five children, on January 2, 1920, in Ogden, Utah, to Isaac Earl and Althea Ferrell Orr Chapman. She grew up in Garfield, Utah, and graduated from Cyprus  High School in 1938. She worked at Kennecott during World War II. She married her sweetheart, George F. Alley, on November 6, 1942. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 2, 1952. They raised their two sons, Mike and Bob, in Magna. In 1973, they moved to the 9th South area of Salt Lake City. Virginia worked as a clerk at “The Best Shop” in Magna, and later at ZCMI. George passed away in 1981. She moved to Delta in 2013 to be closer to family.

Virginia was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many callings. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and the Wasatch Doll Club. She loved to cook, sew, crochet, make and dress dolls and collect miniatures. She also enjoyed traveling, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and reading. Her happiest times were spent with her family whom she loved deeply.

Virginia is survived by children: Mike (Valerie) Alley, Hinckley, Utah; and Bob Alley, Ammon, Idaho; 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson; brothers: James N. Chapman and Rodney O. Chapman. Also survived by her beloved sisters-in-law: Laura “Peg” Alley and Mary Jean Alley. She was preceded in death by parents; husband: George; brothers: Earl and Lee Chapman.

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, August 9, at 1:00 pm, at the Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 W. 4100 S., West Valley City. A Viewing will be held, 11:30 am - 12:40 pm, at the adjacent mortuary, prior to the service.
