Margorie Moody Burr Weldon

Margorie Moody Burr Weldon, age 94, quietly passed away the morning of Monday, September 26, 2016 at her home in Walnut Creek, California. She was born on March 20, 1922, in Sugarville, Utah, the third of the thirteen children of Marvin Juel and Marie Ethel Thurmon Moody. She grew up working hard on her family’s farm. The Moodys raised 10,000 turkeys each year. She grew up tall and strong and competitive. She loved to take on and beat the local boys in softball. She excelled in school and graduated early from Delta High School. She then attended BYU.

Margorie moved to Richmond, California and worked as a secretary for the Kaiser Shipyard that built naval ships during WWII. There she met Anthony Allen Burr, and they were married on October 26, 1946, in Reno, Nevada. They lived in Reno until moving to Walnut Creek in 1949, where they raised their three children. Margorie was a excellent mother, and a fantastic cook. When her children had gotten older, she started working in Real Estate. She was an avid reader and kept up on all the current events, closely followed politics and volunteered many years at the polls during elections. She loved watching BYU football and basketball, and was excellent at crossword puzzles. She loved her hometown and subscribed to the Millard County Chronicle during all her years in California.

Margorie and Anthony divorced, and she later married George Howard Weldon. They bought a new home in Walnut Creek where she spent the next 39 years of her life. George passed away on April 24, 1994.

Margorie was a strong, independent and resilient lady, managing the many challenges she met with during her life. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church. She encouraged her children to be involved in the church and serve missions; emphasized the importance of education, all her children earned college degrees and some graduate degrees; and to be good citizens of this country and their community.

Mom was a loving mother and grandmother. She had a zest for life. We will miss her, but take comfort in knowing we will see her again, and the thought of the joyous reunion she looked forward to with her parents, siblings and son.

Margorie is survived by children: Jane Ruefenacht and David Burr, both of Walnut Creek, California; grandchildren: Rebecca Tribett, Lisa Ward, Robert Ruefenacht, Katie Rogers, Michael Ruefenacht, Haley Burr, and Katelyn Burr; great-grandchildren: Trevor, Kaylee, and Kendall Tribett; and Oscar Ward; siblings: Marion Church, Richard Moody, Verlin Riolo, Phyllis Kay Calvert, and Karen Banta. She was preceded in death by husband: George; son: Gregory Moody Burr; siblings: Virginia Yundt, Shirley Moody, Thurmon Moody, Robert Moody, Gordon Moody, Joyce Moody, Philip Moody.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 7, at 11:30 am, at the Nickle Mortuary Chapel. Friends and family may gather at 11:00 am, prior to the service. Burial will be in the Delta Cemetery. Condolences may be left at www.nicklemortuary.com
