Grayce Western Pace

Grayce Western Pace, age 97, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at her home in Delta, Utah. She was born on February 11, 1919 in Deseret, Utah; the youngest of 13 children born to John Henry and Musetta Palmer Western. She had a wonderful childhood with her siblings. She was always called “Gracey Pacey” by her uncle Mane, clearly foreshadowing her future. She graduated from Hinckley High School, where she excelled in competitions of typing and bookkeeping. She attended college at Cedar City. She married Elwin Leon Pace on October 18, 1939 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They settled around the racetracks in Santa Anita, Tijuana, and Seattle as Elwin raced his horses. In the early 1950's, they moved back home when Elwin bought the Delta Livestock Auction, and Grayce went to work at the D. Stevens Department Store. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker to her five children. She was an excellent cook and was famous for her rolls and raspberry jam. Elwin passed away unexpectedly on August 19, 1972.

Grayce was involved in her community. She was an original member of the Blue Notes. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in various calling in the Relief Society and Primary. She was an avid sports fan, cheering for the Braves, Jazz, BYU, and especially the Delta Rabbits. In 1974, the Delta Basketball team honored her with the title of “Mrs. Basketball”. She deeply cared for her dogs. They were a great comfort to her throughout her later life. Grayce was loved by all who got to know her. Her name fit her perfectly, as she was full of amazing grace. She looked forward to the reunion with her family and especially her beloved husband. She was very grateful for all those who made it possible for her to remain in her home, and the loving care given by her “angel” Pat.

Grayce is survived by her children: Brenda Lee Pace, Delta; Paul (Judy) Pace, Springville; Ann (Brent) Rogers, Oak City; Shannon Cozad, Lindon; Scott (Megan) Pace, Saratoga Springs; 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband: Elwin; her 12 siblings; grandson: Jeremy Scott Rogers; granddaughters: Melissa Ann Cozad and Shanda Marie Pace Pitman; great-grandson: Shay Bradley Pace.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 7, 11:00 AM, at the Delta LDS Stake Center Chapel, 125 S White Sage Ave. Viewings will be held at the Delta LDS Stake Center on Sunday, 6-8 PM; and Monday, 9:30-10:40 AM prior to the service. Burial will be in the Delta City Cemetery.
