Treva Ann John Carlson

Treva Ann John Carlson, age 57, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 in Delta, Utah. She was born March 16, 1960 in Gallup, New Mexico, the third of the four children of Dallas Orlin and Beverly Ann Biggs John. She grew up on the Navajo Reservation in northeastern Arizona where her family ran a trading post. She graduated from Window Rock High School, where she also participated as a cheerleader. She attended BYU and earned a Bachelors Degree in Education.

She got a job teaching elementary school in Tohatchi, New Mexico, but after a year her heart drew her back to William Russell Carlson, whom she had met  while attending BYU. They were married on June 23, 1984 in the Jordan River LDS Temple, and moved to Delta to begin their family.

Treva taught 3rd grade at the Delta North Elementary, and substituted in many classes over the years. She started her own business, “Sweetheart Photography” where her special talent was getting people to pose. Treva enjoyed performances and plays and music. She served many years as President of the Delta Fine Arts Club bringing artists and performers to the area. She enjoyed scrapbooking and especially seeing her children perform. She loved dancing. She enjoyed swimming and was only a little shy of achieving 1,000 miles in the local 100 Mile Club. She could still speak and understand the Navajo language and fondly remembered growing up on the reservation. She enjoyed helping in the community, especially the older residents of the care center, going out of her way to be a friend. She was a woman of great faith and loved reading her scriptures and attending the temple with her family.

Treva is survived by her husband: Russ; sons: John, Eric, Jarom (Racheal), and Jake; grandson: Walter; parents: Dallas and Beverly John; brother: Maurice John; sister: Janiece Palmer. She was preceded in death by her brother: Dallas Lovern John.
