Richard Lee "Dick" Shank

Richard L. “Dick” Shank, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 in Delta, Utah. He was born on June 24, 1936 in Attica, Ohio to Linus Walter and Margret Agatha Gerber Shank. He grew up in Ohio and married his high school sweetheart, Jeanne Marie Thompson, on June 29, 1957 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fremont, Ohio. He was employed by Brush Beryllium (now Materion) in Elmore, Ohio. The family relocated to Delta, Utah in 1969 so Dick could help startup the new plant. He retired in 1998 after 40 years with the company.

Dick enjoyed operating a small engine repair and blade sharpening business. He could fix anything! His children and grandchildren are the grateful recipients of his woodworking projects, a skill in which he was very talented at and thoroughly enjoyed. In 2008, Dick and Jeanne made their retirement home in Green Valley, Arizona.

Dick is survived by his wife: Jeanne Marie, Green Valley, AZ; daughter: Chris (William) Rhue, Cedar City, UT; sons: Ted (Lanie) Shank, Elko and Las Vegas, NV; Russell (Sissy) Shank, Delta, UT; William (Connie) Shank, Round Mountain, NV; 10 grandchildren & 11 great-grandchildren; sister: Betty Beaston, Fostoria, OH; brother: Bruce Shank, Fremont, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents: Linus and Margret Shank; brothers: Ronald Wm. Shank and Melvin Lee Shank; sisters: Mary Stover and Jane Wahl; infant son: Michael Lee; foster daughter: Shary Sides.

Special thanks to the staff at Millard County Care Center for their compassionate care of Dick and Jeanne.

At Dick’s request, there will be no services. Interment will be at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Fremont, Ohio at a later date.

In his honor, Dick’s family encourages donations to St. Joseph’s Central Catholic High School, 702 Croghan St., Fremont, OH 43420 - www.bishop-hoffman.net and St. Jude Children’s Hospital - www.stjude.org
