Homer Dewsnup Jensen

DESERET- Homer Dewsnup Jensen, age 92, passed away, at home, Sunday, February 17, 2013. He was born at home on November 8, 1920, the oldest of four children of Axel and Blanche Dewsnup Jensen. Homer has lived his entire life in Deseret, Utah. He attended A.C. Nelson School in Deseret for the first eight years of his schooling then went to Hinckley High School and graduated there.

Homer married Rae Roberts October 30, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had three children, Diane, Bonnie, and Dale. Rae passed away September 2000 after 59 years of marriage. He later married Beulah Webb Rowley August 2001.

Homer bought his first farm when he was a junior in high school and has spent his entire life farming and taking pride in his farms, cattle, and a great love of horses. He farmed until he was 90 plus years and regretted it when his physical health just wouldn’t let him do it anymore. Along with farming he took second jobs:  Working for the Union Pacific Railroad, the Oasis seed plant, Mototorim service station in Delta, and Brush Beryllium.

Homer loved sports of all kinds. He participated in sports in his youth, followed his children and their sports during their youth and has spent many many hours being entertained with Delta High, Utah Jazz, BYU, and others. He loved boating, camping and hunting. But his greatest love was horses; riding them, breaking wild horses, and going on the desert to gather up cattle.

Homer has provided well for his family and has said many times that he was born and lived in “the best of times”. He was content with his life and the things that he was able to do and the friends that he had. He knew how to work hard and never thought things were too hard for him to handle especially on his farms.

Homer was a life time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Deseret/Oasis ward.

Homer is survived by his 2nd wife: Beulah, Deseret; daughters: Diane (Charles) Allen, Richland, WA; Bonnie Rae Jensen, Deseret; son: Dale (Marilyn) Jensen, LDS Mission President, Tallahassee, FL; brother: Max (Anne) Jensen, West Jordan; 9 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 1 sister, 1st wife, and  2 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 23, at 11 am in the Deseret/Oasis Ward. Viewings will be held at Nickle Mortuary, 190 S. Center St. Delta. Friday evening, 6-8 pm; and Saturday morning at the church, 9:30-10:40 am. Burial at Deseret Cemetery.
