Karl Hale Jeffery, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 in Delta, Utah surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born in Delta, Utah on April 10, 1934, the fifth of eight children to Edgar Wallace Jeffery and Nancy Ethel Hale Jeffery. In 1946, when he was 12 years old, his parents were in a car accident and his father was killed. His mother died from her injuries 2 two years later. He grew up in Delta and graduated from Delta High School in 1952. He was sealed to his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Joan Poulsen, in the Manti Temple on July 27, 1953. Together they had 5 children: Debra Louise, Richard Archie, Russell Karl, Robert LaVoy and Rodger David. After 48 years of marriage, on November 30, 2001, Dorothy passed away.
Dad served in the United States Army as a medic from 1954 to 1956, living in Fort Ord, California; Fort Sam, Houston, Texas; and Fort Lewis, Washington. They returned to Delta for a short time before moving to Provo, Utah where Dad worked for Pacific Fruit and Produce Company. As Dad moved up in the company, he was transferred to Nephi for a year, and then to Salt Lake for a short time. In 1963, he went to work for Quality Market and moved back to Delta, where he would live for the rest of his life. In 1968-69, Dad went back to school to learn accounting and in 1969 he went to work for the newly built Brush Beryllium Plant, where he worked until he retired. Dad worked a side job as the Newspaper Distributor for the Delta area for 30 years, becoming friends with MANY of the young newspaper carriers that worked for him. He loved them and always called them “his kids”.
Dad played church basketball and softball on city league teams. In his later years he also played on the Brush Wellman golf and bowling teams. He also liked to watch almost all sports, and was one of Delta High School’s biggest fans.
Dad was in the Kiwanis Club, the JCs, and in the Rotary Club. He became a member of the Millard County Sheriff Posse, where he served for 20+ years as secretary and treasurer, and 5 years as a captain. He was also a member of the American Legion for over 30 years.
Dad was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Sunday School, as a ward clerk, home teacher, at the bishop’s storehouse, and in the scouting program.
After Mom died, Dad met another wonderful lady, who we would all grow to love and accept as our second Mom. On January 27, 2007, Ina Rae Roper became Ina Rae Jeffery and we again had a wonderful mother to guide, love and counsel us.
More than anything else, Dad taught us the importance of family. For over 40 years he and his siblings and their families held a reunion that was enjoyed by all who attended. He never missed any of his children’s or grandchildren’s performances in whatever activities they were involved in. He was a super fan of anything that brought his family together. His favorite thing in the world was to have all of his family together, and he was able to visit with all of his children and grandchildren prior to his death.
Dad is survived by his loving wife: Ina; his children: Deb (Tim) Haveron, Rob (Lynn) Jeffery, and Rodger Jeffery, all of Delta; his grandchildren, and his siblings: Rose, Rachel, Albert and Alfred. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife: Dorothy, his sons: Richard and Russell; and siblings: Hale, Clara, and Ross.
