Robert C Jones

Robert “Bob” C Jones, age 88, returned to the arms of His Heavenly Father, his loving wife, and parents on Sunday, November 26, 2017 in Delta, Utah. He was born June 13, 1929 at his home in Sutherland, Utah to Calvin Hall Jones and Millie Dorthea Christensen Jones. He was the 6th of 8 children. Three of them, including Robert, were born after their father had served as a missionary for 3 years. Robert grew up on the farm in Sutherland, learning the value of hard work and frugal living. He graduated from Delta High School in 1947 and played football at Branch Agricultural College (BAC) in Cedar City for a year before enlisting in the Air Force.

He spent 20 years in the Air Force, working first as a radial aircraft engine mechanic, then training to become a Flight Engineer. He spent many hours on the Super Constellation, patrolling the Pacific Ocean. Before retiring, he was managing a radar repair shop for the F106 fighter jets.

He met Dolores Mae Van Sickle while living in California. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 6, 1957. They quickly had their family of 4 boys: Calvin, Craig, Douglas, and Gordon. During his years in the Air Force, they lived in California, Alaska, and Virginia and spent weekends exploring and making fun memories. After 20 years, he retired and returned to Sutherland. He went to work at the Autovon, as an Electrical Technician for Continental Telephone, until he retired in 1992.

After his second retirement, Dolores suffered a severe stroke. Robert spent the next 18 years providing constant care for her. They weren’t able to travel as they had dreamed, but they were able to go on a few adventures. He was very vigilant in caring for her every need.

He was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was a man of great integrity, and if he gave his word, he stuck to it. He taught his sons how to work hard, and to be independent and self-sufficient.

Robert is survived by his sons: Calvin (Brenda) of Hinckley, Utah; Craig (Jill) of Delta, Utah; Douglas of Sunrise, Florida; and Gordon of West Jordan, Utah; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren with one on the way. Also survived by his brothers: Blain C. Jones of Layton, Utah; and Ladd Jones of Richardson, Texas. He is preceded in death by his loving wife: Dolores (she passed away on June 29, 2010); his parents; and brother and sisters: Theta (who died as an infant), Don, Violet, Berniece, and LaRae.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at the Sutherland LDS Chapel,  2650 North 3000 West. Viewings will be held Sunday evening, 7:00-8:00 p.m., at the Nickle Mortuary, 190 S Center St, Delta; and Monday morning, 9:30-10:40 a.m., prior to the service. Burial in the Delta City Cemetery.
