Roldo Max Bennett

Roldo Max Bennett, age 96, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017 in Delta, Utah. He was born in Deseret, Utah on August 13, 1921, the youngest of eleven children (6 brothers and 4 sisters), to Thomas William and Alice Kinder Bennett. When he was very young his family moved into Delta. He attended Delta High School, where he excelled in athletics. He lettered in basketball and was the quarterback of the 1938 State Champion Delta Rabbits Football Team. He then went to play football and basketball for Dixie College. While there he met the love of his life, Caroline Cottam. After World War II began, he joined the US Coast Guard. He was stationed in Hawaii until 1944. While on leave, he returned and married Caroline on December 29, 1944 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Max was reassigned to Toledo, Ohio, where they began their life together.

After the war, they returned to Delta and raised their two boys: Robert “Bob” and James “Jim”.  Max worked as a Journeyman Electrician for Telluride Power (now Rocky Mtn Power). He retired as a line crew supervisor in 1985, after 40 years of dedicated service. Caroline passed away on April 2, 1998 after 54 years together.

Max loved being outdoors. He was an excellent bow hunter and a great golfer. At 95 he would still be found golfing three times a week, and performing very well in longest drive other golf skill competitions.

Max loved his family. He was a great Dad, Granddad, and Great-Granddad. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Max is survived by his son: Bob (Ilona) Bennett, Cedar City, UT; daughter-in-law: Vickie Bennett, South Jordan, UT; 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife: Caroline; son: Jim Bennett; and all his siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 29, at 11:00 am, at the Nickle Mortuary Chapel, 190 South Center St, Delta, UT. A Viewing will be held Friday morning, 9:30-10:40 am, prior to the service. Burial with Military Rites will be at the Delta City Cemetery.
