Owen William Cahoon, age 80, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at his home in Syracuse, Utah. He recently relocated from St. George. He was born on November 12, 1937 in Delta, Utah, to parents Clayson K Cahoon and Hazel May Walch Cahoon. He married Charlotte Taylor on June 17, 1960, in the Manti LDS Temple. He earned a PhD in Education from Pennsylvania State University. He taught as a Professor in the College of Family Living at BYU, where he taught and supervised students to be preschool and elementary teachers. He authored several Child Development text books, and loved teaching. He retired in 1992, and returned to Delta to manage the family farm. Moved to St. George in 1998, then to Syracuse in November 2017.
He served as LDS Bishop, and in many auxiliary callings. He lived a faithful Gospel life. He served on the Sunday School General Board Child Committee, writing and developing nursery and child curriculum. Served several full-time missions: Southern States Mission, Senior Couple mission, Iowa Des Moines Mission, and was an Ordinance Worker in the Provo and St. George Temples.
Owen is survived by his wife: Charlotte; five children: Russell Owen, Ann Christene Funkhouser, James Eugene, Jill Hazel Cahoon Ritter, and Charles Jared; many adored grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters: Edyth May Cahoon Hughes, and LuJean Cahoon Allison.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 10, at 11 AM, at the Delta 3rd Ward, 197 S 300 W, Delta. Viewing will be held 9:30-10:40 AM, prior to the service. Interment in the Delta City Cemetery.
