Ned Milne Church

NedChurch2.webNed Milne Church passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Delta, Utah. Born July 28, 1915 in St. George, Utah to George N. and Sarah Shakespear Church, Ned was the sixth of twelve children. He married his childhood sweetheart, Florence Mildred Christensen, January 20, 1937 in the Manti LDS Temple. Together they raised eight children in a happy marriage for 42 years until her death November 24, 1979. He married Madge Heyborne Johnson on May 24, 1986 in the Manti LDS Temple. They had 11 years of support and caring for each other with the addition of Madge’s four children and their families to Ned’s family circle. She died March 10, 1997.

Ned moved from Panguitch to Millard County in 1923 when he was eight years old. He graduated from Delta High School in 1934 where he was active in sports. He became a small business owner, which included operating a hotel and grocery store and managing a department store. He later worked as the Economic Development Director for Millard County. He served a four-year term from 1961-1965 as Delta City Mayor. Ned’s genuine interest and concern for others has been felt by many hundreds of individuals in his service in the LDS Church as a bishop and patriarch for many years. His work ethic, optimism, integrity and enthusiasm were characteristics that inspired all who knew him.

Ned is survived by his sister: Sarah Church Finlinson, Oak City, Utah; children: Florence Church Malohifo’ou, Delta, Utah; Sterling (Rhea) Church, Cedar City, Utah; Stephen (Barbara) Church, Sandy, Utah; Kathleen (Dan) Henrie, Burley, Idaho; children-in-law: Nancy Nelson Church, St. George, Utah; Tom Clark, Cedar City, Utah; stepchildren: Abner “A.B” (Annette) Johnson, Fillmore, Utah; Austin Ray (Susan) Johnson, Richland, Washington; Janet Smith, Delta, Utah. He is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. He was preceded in death by children: Leah Church Michie, David Church, McKay Church, Marcia Church Clark; sons-in-law: Kuri Malohifo’ou, Rex Michie; stepdaughter: Margene Johnson Story; step son-in-law: Dean Smith; grandchildren: Gordon Ray Church, Loeman Church, Abel Church; great-granddaughter: Chelsea Rae Michie.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 7, at 11:00 am, at the Delta LDS Stake Center, 125 S. White Sage Ave. A Viewing will be held, 9:00-10:40 am, prior to the service. Burial will be in the Delta City Cemetery.
