Stanton Nielson Lovell

StantonLovell2.webStanton Nielson Lovell, age 66, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018 in Delta, Utah after a long battle with cancer. He was born on July 12, 1952, the second child of eight born to Owen Leoyd and Leila Nielson Lovell. Growing up in a big family, he always had someone to play with or battle. He loved participating in sports. He would always be found bringing together the kids in his neighborhood to play baseball, basketball or hang out at the swimming pool. He enjoyed helping out on his grandparents farm in Oak City, or learning about cars at his father’s service station. Through time spent there he gained an interest in engines that he kept throughout his life.

He graduated from Delta High School, then attended Snow College. He served his church in the New England LDS Mission, spending most of his time among the people of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. He returned back to work in his dad’s shop. One day a girl caught his eye, and she was no match for his persistence and devotion. His personality made him a best friend of her parents and all her siblings, who all loved riding in his car, ‘Cuda. What could she do? He married Cindy Rae Damron on February 6, 1976 in the Manti LDS Temple. They made their home in Page, Arizona. While there they had their first son.

In 1978, he moved back to Delta. Their family grew with three more kids. He worked as a fleet manager at IPP, and later as a parts manager for Droubay Motors. During those years he also took classes and earned a Bachelors degree in Business. He then reopened Lovell’s Auto Service. He loved working and helping people out. His shop was a hang out for many friends to pass the time. He loved his service to the youth as a scout master and coach for many teams. He enjoyed bowling, golf and attending the Barrett-Jackson Car Show. He loved to go on cruises, road trips and his family will always fondly remember their yearly trip to Lake Powell. Stanton’s life revolved around the people in his life, he was a good friend to everyone he knew and helped out others wherever he could. He will be particularly remembered for sharing his delicious sugar cookies. They would not taste right without “The Pat” which delivered just the right amount of care.

He endured to the end with such bravery and courage. He was diagnosed with rare carcinoid cancer in 2005 and lived with it progressing through his body for 14 years, never complaining. He fought like a warrior to stay here with his family to the very end. He and his son JJ, even recently set to work restoring his 5th baby, that ol’ 1973 ‘Cuda. He passed away before completion. Everything he did, he did for us and we will always remember it. It was through sheer willpower that he stayed with us for as long as he did. He was kind and generous to everyone. It didn’t matter who or what their circumstances were. His brothers have said Stanton was always their go to. Night or day he was always there to help. Stanton had a great smile that was joyful and infectious. His passing will leave a huge hole in the community and lives of his family. To face the grief, we will be encouraged by one of Stanton’s favorite sayings, “It’ll feel better when it stops hurtin’. ”

Stanton is survived by his wife: Cindy; children: Tiffany (Dallas) Patten, Payson; JJ (Monica) Lovell, Delta; Niqole (Trevor) Riding, Delta; grandchildren: Keilty Riding, Briggs Lovell, Zona Patten, Estie Riding, Quae Lovell, Tucker Lovell, and Mack Patten; siblings: Lauralee (Craig) Brunson, Spanish Fork; Nan (Andy) Anderson, Tyler, Texas; Vance (Marsha) Lovell, Delta; Mark (Rachel) Lovell Aurora; Darla (Greg) Chappel, Oak City; Garth (Taffy) Lovell, Pleasant Grove; Mona (Doug) Wells, Hanksville.
