Clark Burgess Cox

ClarkCox3.webDr. Clark Burgess Cox, DDS, PhD, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 in Delta, Utah. He was born on February 23, 1929 in St. George Utah to Emerald Lane and Elsie Burgess Cox. He grew up farming, ranching, and mining alongside his family in the St. George area.

He graduated from Dixie High School and Dixie College with honors. He was accepted to the University of Southern California Dental School as a Doctor of Dental Surgery where he graduated top of his class.

While at Dixie College he met his sweetheart, Donna Anderson. They were sealed for time and all eternity on July 15, 1949 in the St. George Temple. They then moved to Los Angeles, California.

The young Dr. Cox joined the army and went to Fort Sam, Houston, Texas where he graduated as a First Lieutenant from the Medical Field Service School at Brooke Army Medical Center. He was then transferred to Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Because of his marksmanship ability he was assigned to the 18th Airborne Marksmanship Team, and dentist for the 51st Medical Company, US Army.

After his service during the Korean War, he began his dental practice in Delta, Utah where he practiced for 46 years. He provided dedicated service as the only dentist in Delta for many years. He had patients that came from as far as McGill, Salt Lake, and St. George. Dr. Cox was known for his gentleness, kindness, and selfless service no matter how many patients he had seen that day or what time of night it was.

Clark enjoyed his role as a provider and father helping Donna raise their six children. He loved the great outdoors, hunting, chasing mustangs, mining, ranching and farming. He loved each of his 29 grandkids and taught many of them how to work on the farm, with the cattle, at the mine, or at the office.

Clark was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings including the Bishopric of the Delta Second Ward and as a Stake High Councilman. He was an active member of the community; he served as a Delta City Councilman, and on numerous boards. He loved the people of Delta and Millard County.

Clark is survived by children: David (Shelley) Cox, Cedar City; Craig (Carol Ann) Cox, Fruit Heights; Suzanne (Joseph) Morris, Delta; Gary (Jody) Cox, Spanish Fork; Dianne K Lane, Lewes, Delaware; Cynthia Moody, Pocatello, Idaho; 29 grandkids, 76 great-grandkids, and 3 great-great grandkids; brother: Sherman (Marilyn) Cox, Bellevue, Washington; sisters: Cheryl (Bruce) Stucki, St. George; Cynthia (Neal) Shepherd, St. George; Rosalee (Doug) Rogers, St. George. He was preceded in death by his wife: Donna, parents and sisters: Carolyn Holland and DeLoris Blake.

The family expresses heartfelt thanks to Dr. Shamo, Home Health Care, Hospice, and Millard Care and Rehabilitation Center. Special thanks to Laura, Ann, Shari, and Wendy. Thanks also to the Delta 5th Ward’s Priest Quorum and to Kiley, Jody, Bonnie, Tess and Bishop Allred for their special attention.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 8, at 11:00 a.m., at the Delta LDS Stake Center Chapel, 125 White Sage Avenue. Viewings will be held Sunday, 6-8 p.m., at the Delta Stake Center; and Monday, 9:30-10:40 a.m., prior to the service. Burial will be in the Delta City Cemetery.
