Robert Matthew Clark

Robert Matthew Clark passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 in Delta, Utah as a result of a ruptured aortic aneurysm. He was 89 years old. Bob was born in Delta on October 23, 1929 and lived his entire life in the Sugarville farming area North of Delta. Bob loved Delta. Though he explored a few popular tourist stops with his wife Sharon, he was very content and happy on the farm.
Bob loved the outdoors. It was futile to call before the sun went down because he was always outside until then. He farmed for many years, then became the Watermaster for the Sutherland irrigation area, a job he truly enjoyed. He loved people and the Watermaster job fit him perfectly as he could constantly visit with the people along the water route.
Bob coached little league baseball and football and many of his former players have fond memories of those youthful times. Many of the same people remember him as their Watermaster in their adult years. He was an avid fisherman and spent many winter days ice fishing with his brother Bill, his cousin Tony, and neighbor Elden Shurtz. He had fond memories of hunting deer “out North” on the Vernon range, and hunting pheasants on those sunny, crisp November days.

Bob’s special gift was that he loved to visit. No TV show or movie ever entertained him as much as an opportunity to talk with friends and neighbors. His legacy, however, will always be his optimism. He always found a silver lining to every setback. Like everyone in this mortal life, Bob had his ticket punched several times. He lost his wife, two sons, the use of his right eye, and the farm, but few are probably aware of these hardships because he didn’t dwell on them.  When faced with tragedy and difficulty there was a time to mourn which was always followed by a time to move on.

He loved people and he loved his family. He was a fixture for many years at Delta sporting events – especially the “wrestles.” He traveled to towns near and far to watch his sons and their teammates compete. Though he supported his sons in everything they did, his special interest was his daughter, Joey. As the only daughter in a family of four kids, her lot was not easy, but Bob and Sharon both made sure she felt special and included. He was unabashed saying, “Girls are a lot easier to raise than boys.” But in either case, boys or girls, Bob took the time and made the effort to raise his children. He spent time with them and made sure they knew their importance to him. We love you dad!

Bob is survived by his sister: Phyllis Holt, his son: Matt, and his daughter: Joey (Caldwell). He is preceded in death by his wife: Sharon; and his sons: Bruce and Shane; his brothers: Ray, Bill, and Ted; and his sister: Shirley (Bohannon).

A Graveside Service, which was Bob’s request, will be held at the Sutherland Cemetery (2100 N 4100 W) on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 11:00 am. His family invites all that knew Bob to attend.
