Arnold Dale Petersen

Arnold Dale Petersen, age 86, returned to his Heavenly Father on Monday, January 20, 2020 in Gunnison, Utah. He was born on January 28, 1933 in Abraham, Utah the sixth of  10 children to Joseph Clifferd and Erma Tolbert Petersen. He grew up in Abraham helping out on the family farm. He graduated from Hinckley High School where he played on the basketball team. He then served an LDS mission to Norway and held a strong connection to the culture throughout his life. After returning, he enlisted in the US Army serving as a clerk following the Korean War. After his service he moved to southern California, where he met and married Nadine Wright. They had two children together: Melody and Bob. They later divorced.

He eventually met Elaine Sylvia Brown. They were married on May 7, 1961 in Carson City, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had six more children together: Julie, Heather, Dale, Paul, Marleene, and Becky. Arnold worked as an electrician, and moved his family between southern California and Layton, Utah in the course of construction jobs. After becoming a master electrician he open his own business in Layton. He retired in the late 90's and moved back to Hinckley, Utah close to his childhood home. Elaine passed away on February 1, 2005. He later met and married Patsy Hollingshead. Their relationship was a joy to him during his later years. They made their home in Hurricane, Utah until her passing in May of 2019. During his last months he moved to Gunnison, Utah; close to his granchildren.

Arnold enjoyed mining for minerals, especially gold, playing his accordion, and doing genealogy work. Recently his greatest joy was spending time with his great-grandchildren. He loved to joke around and had a dry sense of humor. He had a great love of the gospel and loved to teach and share his stories with anyone who would listen. We will miss him.

Arnold is survived by seven children; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his brother: Wayne. He is preceded in death by his wife: Elaine; and son: Arnold Dale Petersen, Jr.

Graveside services with military rites were held Wednesday, January 22, at 11:00am, at the Sutherland Cemetery.
