Cindy Lou Carter Greathouse, age 71, passed away peacefully at her home in Lynndyl, holding her husband’s hand. Cindy fought a hard battle with cancer. Cindy was born in Delta, Utah on December 8, 1948, to Stewart Kennard Carter and Betty Lou Davis Carter. She was the oldest of 5 siblings. They moved to Ely when she was young, where she attended grade school. Later they moved to Hyrum, where she graduated from Sky View High School in 1966. That summer she worked in Yellowstone, she had to lie about her age since she was only 17. After the summer in Yellowstone, Cindy attended Utah State University for a quarter, where she majored in billiards. While in Yellowstone, her family moved back to Hinckley and left no forwarding address, but she still found them after leaving Utah State University. While living Hinckley, Cindy met, Russell Greathouse. She then moved to Vegas to work at the Dunes for a little while - then back to Hinckley to marry Russell. Russell and Cindy married on June 8, 1968 in Hinckley, Utah. They made their life in Lynndyl, Utah on the Greathouse family farm. In 1969, they had their first child. While pregnant Cindy told her aunt that she hoped she liked her baby as much as she liked her dog. They had four children and then later they adopted their oldest grandson. She loved her family more than they will ever know.

Cindy owned and operated Fashion Rite Beauty Salon for many years. She was a self-taught beautician and her clients loved her. She took a personal interest in her clients. When they could no longer come to the salon, she would go to them. Her family remembers her taking care of Gert and Bert for years. She later ventured into the catering/wedding/party business with the Olde Stone Chapel. The last few years she helped at the family business, Sahara Motors. She was doing the monthly accounts payable, feeding the employees, remodeling, and anything else that needed to be done.

Cindy never sat still for long; she loved keeping busy; she loved being outdoors.  Camping in the summertime, pancake dinners in the canyon, gardening all summer and tending to her chickens. One summer she and Russell rode to Fool Creek Peak on horses with a group of friends. She loved it and talked about it often, mainly about Russell putting her on a fat horse. Her yard was amazing. She worked on her yard from sun-up to sun-down all summer or until it got too hot or cold. She loved playing volleyball and softball and enjoyed Rook. She also coached the Young Women as well as served as the Relief Society President for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Cindy was a very talented carpenter, always working on some kind of remodeling job. She was an expert with moldings and painting. She would have HDTV on most of the day, in the background, learning and getting new ideas. At 10 in the morning, you could find her in front of the television watching Young & the Restless. She hardly missed a show since it first started many years ago. Her love for the soap rubbed off on her youngest son Fred; they watched many together. She loved traveling to Ely, Nevada to help her daughter Sandi whenever she got a chance and would schedule her driving around the Dr. Laura Show.

Living in Lynndyl by the train tracks, she hated the trains that would stop in front of her house for hours. On the day of her passing, the train got one more stop in before she left the house. The train blocked the tracks for about an hour before they could pick her up. We can only imagine who’s ears were burning.

She was greeted by her daughter: Josie, and her son: Ryan. She is survived by her husband: Russell Greathouse; her children: Sandi (Josh Manning) Greathouse, Fred (Chasie) Greathouse, and Spencer Greathouse; her grandchildren: Jeric, McCall, Hunter, Brianna, Jolie, Kidd, Seth, Cy, Gracee, Frankee, Carter, and Kamryn.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 31, at 12:00 noon, at the Delta City Cemetery. Viewings will be held at the Nickle Mortuary, 190 South Center Street, Thursday, 6:00-8:00 pm; and Friday, 10:30-11:40 am, before traveling to the cemetery.
