Gerald Denis Shoup

GeraldShoup2.webGerald Denis Shoup, age 88, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2020 in Delta, Utah surrounded by his family. He was born on December 19, 1931, in Delta, Colorado to Edward Carl and Wilma Columbine Hollcraft Shoup. He and his sister grew up in many towns in the western United States as his father’s job kept the family moving. As he grew he enjoyed spending his free time hunting and being outdoors. He graduated from Pocatello High School at age 16 and went right into the electrician trade. He also became interested in flying. He earned his pilots license at 20 years of age, turning flying into a hobby, even owning his own plane, for much of his life. His electrican jobs again kept him moving between projects. The daughter of one of his coworkers caught his eye, and through good fortune, they were hired onto the same projects, so they were able to continue to spend time together while jumping between jobs in Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming and elsewhere. Gerald married Dorothy Loretta Scott on October 17, 1952 in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

In 1953, Gerald was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War. He honorably served his country at Fort Ord. While there he was selected to be a member of the competitive Army Rile Team. When he returned to civilian life his electrical knowledge made him a strong asset for companies. In the 1970's as computers began to become a part of more and more office environments, he was chosen to be a part of the early groups to receive training in computer programming. His skills throughout his later years always made him the goto technician for computer help among his relatives and friends.

He was hired as an electrical superintendent at IPP in 1983, settling down in Hinckley, Utah. He retired in 1985. He and Dorothy enjoyed traveling to see all the wonderful places of the country. He also enjoyed being involved in the shooting community, participating in many trapshooting competitions and earning the designation of Master Shooter.

His greatest joy was his family. His raised two children, Gerald Jr. and Linda, and was very supportive in their interests and activities. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Gerald is survived by his wife: Dorothy; children: Gerald (Bonnie) Shoup Jr, Green River, Wyoming; Linda Lund, Seward, Alaska; grandchildren: Tamara Thompson, Amelia Cuevas, Chris Hooker, Denis Lund; great-grandchildren: Mia Thompson, Eli Shoup, Hugo Cuevas, Shayleigh Hooker, Kody Hooker, Trystin Hooker, William Hooker, Faithlyn, and Trevon Lund, Abby; sister: Edwina (George) Maki.; Maki Nephews and Niece: Chris, Carol, Jimmy, David and Scott. He was preceded in death by a grandson: Trevor Hooker.

Memorial Services will be held at a future date. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Green River, Wyoming.
