Douglas Spencer Smith

Douglas Spencer Smith, age 52, of Garland, Utah passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 in Ogden, Utah. Doug was born to Jerry Lloyd and Mary Jean Beverage Smith on November 27, 1967 in Boise, Idaho. Doug loved animals. Whenever he befriended a stray, he would take it home and try to keep it, much to his parents’ dismay. Doug loved to be in the mountains; camping, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed swimming and baseball. He graduated from Spanish Fork High and joined the US Navy soon after.

He met the love of his life, LeAnn Rawlinson, and they married on October 9, 1990 in Spanish Fork, Utah  while he was on one of his military leaves. After the Navy, he worked in construction, putting pipeline in Utah. While performing  this work he was severely injured. He dealt with pain for the remainder of his life.

His greatest joy was his family. The love he had for his children, Chelsea and Paul, is what kept him going from day to day. Then his “bestest” friend in the whole wide world, his grandson, Treygan, was born and stole his heart!!

Doug’s son, Paul, never left his side. Paul was a constant companion, taking him to numerous appointments and helping him through the rough times.

Doug leaves behind his wife of 29 years: LeAnn, (Garland, Utah); daughter: Chelsea Ann and grandson: Treygan Spencer, (Colorado Springs, Colorado); son: Paul Lloyd (Garland, Utah); his father: Jerry, (Boise, Idaho); siblings: Denise Overson, (Washington), Dannette and Glen Clayson, (Spanish Fork, Utah), Dale and Kelli, (Lehi, Utah), Dawn and Clay Burgess, (Boise, Idaho), many nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his mother: Jean; mother and father-in-law: Verdene and Neil Rawlinson; and nephew: Kaden Dene Whitney.
