Ammon LeRoy Brenay

Ammon LeRoy Brenay, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 in Delta, Utah. LeRoy was born June 20, 1937 in Mesa, Arizona, the eleventh of the 13 children born to Charles Albert and Mariah Beulah Skinner Brenay. He grew up spending many hours working the family farms in Arizona and Utah. He graduated from Hurricane High School in 1955 where he participated in football. Soon after graduating he enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Alaska and Japan. After an honorable discharge, he returned to work for Titanium Metal Company in Henderson, Nevada. He also began to enjoy participating in drag racing in Nevada and St. George. A friend from the garage where he would work on his car had very cute sister. Thus he met the love of his life. He married Mary Claire Hansen on June 12, 1964 in the St. George LDS Temple.

They made their home in Las Vegas area, but after a few years, his brother-in-law encouraged him to join his business installing carpet. LeRoy’s family lived in Nevada, California, Oregon, Utah, Montana, and finally back to Utah. While in Montana he opened his own carpet supply business. He made it very successful until his health began to fail.

He was a strong and faithful member of the LDS Church and served many callings in the many communities he lived in. He loved attending the temple with Mary, reading western novels, listening to piano music, prospecting for metal, and especially Mary’s cooking. He will always be remembered for his desire to serve others, his strong love for his family, and his amazing storytelling.

LeRoy is survived by his wife: Mary; daughters: Cynthia (Dan) Riojas, Providence; Annie (Ryan) Thomas, Hinckley; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brother: Isaac Brenay.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 18, at 11:00 am, at the Nickle Mortuary Chapel, 190 South Center Street. Masks and social distancing are encouraged. A Viewing will be held prior to the funeral, 9:30-10:40 am. Interment with military honors will follow at the Delta City Cemetery.
