Helen Sibulak DeSorcy

HelenDeSorcy2.webHelen Sibulak DeSorcy, age 91, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020 in Sutherland, Utah. Helen was born on July 11, 1929 in Evansburg, Alberta, Canada to Nicholas and Mary Karostyl Sibulak. She was the middle child, with two brothers. She grew up and went to school in the coal mining towns of Nacmine and Drumheller, Alberta. Her parents had immigrated to Canada from the Ukraine, and the Ukrainian culture remained a part of her life. She made the sacrifice to leave high school education early to go to work and help support her family. She eventually married her high school sweetheart, Arthur Joseph DeSorcy, on October 14, 1950 in Drumheller, Alberta. They first made their home in Drumheller, and later in Oyen, Alberta; but Arthur was ambitious, and in 1959 he purchased a gas station in Seattle, Washington and moved the family to the United States. In 1970, the family moved again to Pleasant Grove, Utah when Art open a steel fabricating business. Helen was a stay at home mom, raising 5 children. She enjoyed bowling with friends and often participated in the Bowling Nationals. She also took up golf when she moved to Payson near the Elk Ridge Golf Course. In 1983 they retired to Anaheim, California. Her husband, Art, passed away on January 21, 2001. Since then, Helen had the joy of sharing her life with her children in Washington and Utah.

Helen was a woman of faith and has been very active in her Catholic community, especailly in Payson where she had the honor of donating the cross for the San Andres Church. She also donated the cross that marks the pioneer trail.

Helen’s greatest joy was her family. She was always a constant source of support for husband and children. She was a wonderful cook and always enjoyed making Ukrainian  foods and treats. Her life was a collection of time spent helping, encouraging and cheering on the family she loved. He taught her children to always be honest, to practice good character, and not to judge others, because one can’t know they struggles they have to face themselves. She was happy and loved life. She had a spirit that embraced and cared for everyone she met. She will be deeply missed.

Helen is survived by her children: Darlene (Kent) Roselle, Soap Lake, Washington; Rennie DeSorcy, Orem; Toni Perez, Delta; Art (Robin) DeSorcy, Springville; Bill (Cindy) DeSorcy, Orem; 9 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren; brother: Yorry Sibulak, Edmonton, Alberta. She was preceded in death by her husband: Art; and brother: Andrew.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 7, at 11:00 am, at the Nickle Mortuary Chapel. A Viewing will be held Saturday, 9:30-10:40 am, prior to the service. Masks and Social Distancing is strongly encouraged.
