James "Jim" David Edwards

JimEdwards2.webJames “Jim” David Edwards, our loving husband, dad, and grandpa, passed away peacefully at the age of 79 surrounded by his family, on Thursday, November 5, 2020 in his home in Delta, Utah. It was one day short of his 61st wedding anniversary to his sweetheart, Jeanne. His passing came after battling stomach cancer for 5 months. Dad fought a courageous battle against his cancer and showed us all how strong he was and how to endure to the end!

Jim was born in Beaver, Utah on December 17, 1940 to James Reed and Maxine Puffer Edwards. He was the oldest of four children. His siblings include: Ronnie Edwards,  Bruce Edwards and Marsha Edwards Dalton. Dad attended elementary school in Beaver, Utah and graduated from Beaver High School in 1959. He was a great athlete and played a variety of sports in High School.

He met his sweetheart, Alma Jeanne Eyre, in high school and they were married on November 6, 1959. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple. He attended the College of Southern Utah where he studied Engineering. He started work at the Utah State Water Rights Office and then moved on to work at the Forest Service in Cedar City, Utah where he was a Lead Surveyor. After 17 years with the Forest Service, an opportunity arose for him in 1980 to move his family to Delta, Utah and open his own Land Surveying Business. He spent the next 40 years surveying in Millard County. He also worked for 17 years as a Mechanic at IPSC. He was a well-respected member of the community and had a heart of gold. Throughout his years of service he provided many acts of charitable survey work for those in need.

Jim had a passion for speed, whether it be racing trucks, jeeps, ATVs or challenging anyone to a foot race, including his grandchildren whom he always defeated. Dad loved horse racing. During the heyday of horse racing in Minersville, Utah; he would bring his suped-up  CJ-5 jeep and would challenge any Quarter Horse and Jockey to a 100 yard race on the race track. He won most of those races. But his biggest passion was guns and hunting! His guns had to be the fastest and most accurate. No one could compete with “Jim Edwards”. He spent countless hours with his sons and son-in-law hunting, shooting and camping... while his wife, daughter and daughters-in-law went shopping!

Jim had a strong testimony of the gospel and served in numerous positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Executive Secretary, Young Men President, Ward Clerk, and Sunday School President. He and Mom also served in the Manti Temple for one year. However, he was not a big fan of Home Teaching!

Jim and Jeanne have lived in Delta for over 40 years and have raised five children. They have 21 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored. Family, above all, meant everything to Dad. He will be deeply missed.

Jim is survived by his wife: Alma Jeanne Eyre Edwards; children: David (Debra) Edwards; Craig (Tammy) Edwards; Cary (Tisha) Edwards; Jena (Doug) Hare and Jim (Tori) Edwards. He was preceded in death by his parents: Reed and Maxine Edwards; and father and mother-in-law: James and Renee Eyre.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 11, at 11 a.m., at the Delta LDS Stake Center Chapel, 125 White Sage Ave. Viewings will be held Tuesday, November 10, 6-8 p.m., at the Nickle Mortuary, 190 S Center St; and Wednesday, 9:30-10:40 a.m., prior to the service. Masks and social distancing are encouraged. Burial will be in the Delta City Cemetery. The recorded video of the funeral is available at: https://youtu.be/bFjQwS3M-9Y
