Francis LaRae Chesley Peterson

LaRaePeterson2.webFrancis LaRae Chesley Peterson, age 87, returned home to her Heavenly Father and to her beloved husband on Thursday, January 7, 2021 in Delta, Utah. She was born to Scott B and Nona Pearson Chesley on April 20, 1933 in Delta, Utah. She was the oldest of two daughters.

She attended Delta High School. She was a baton twirler for the band and played the drums. She was also in the Pep Club. She was a hard worker. When she was old enough to work, she got a job at Service Drug and loved to make the old-fashioned soda drinks, (Iron ports, Sarsaparillas, and Shirley Temples). She worked there until she graduated from high school.

She attended Branch Agricultural College now known as Southern Utah University. While there she was a member of the XI Lambda Law Tau Sorority and served as President of the Inter Sorority Council. She was also a member of the ROTC Sponsor Corps.

She married Shirley John Peterson on December 19, 1952 in the St. George Temple while Shirley was on leave from the Air Force. They made their first home in Rapid City, South Dakota while Shirley was in the  service. It was there that their first child was born. When Shirley was released from the service they moved back to Delta, had two more daughters and decided to make Delta their home.

She worked a the local Delmart department store and was a secretary for the Delta hospital until she retired.

She had a fun sense of humor and a lot of hilarious sayings. She loved to go get a coke with her friends, she made the best homemade pickles and root beer. She loved to collect dolls and follow the kids and grandkids in all of their activities.

She was always caring of others. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and loved the gospel. After she retired, she volunteered as a Pink Lady for the hospital and was a member of the American Legion. She was a cancer survivor and helped many others through their experiences with cancer. She was involved in the local book club and loved getting together and learning something new.

She always had an open-door policy of ‘What’s mine is yours, help yourself’. Everybody called her Grandma Rae, she was loved by all.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Shirley and parents: Scott and Nona Chesley. She is survived by her daughters: D’Ann (Bill) Fraizer ; Joni (Pete) Jacobson; Lisa (David) Abbott; all of Delta; sister: Julie (Don) DaGrade, Chandler, Arizona. She has 12 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
