David P. Henrie, MD

DavidHenrie1.webDavid Paul Henrie, M.D. of Delta Utah passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, March 7, 2021, after a long battle with age-related health issues. He was 80 years old. David was born on December 30, 1940, along with his twin brother, Richard; to Marion Cutler and Mary Lyman Henrie. David was raised on the Henrie family farm in Sutherland along with his 5 brothers and 4 sisters working the land, growing crops, raising livestock, milking cows, hunting, fishing, ranching, and learning the value of sacrifice and hard work. He milked the cows every day and enjoyed working hard to contribute to his family. During these years David developed an interest in academics especially reading, science, and math.

Upon graduating from Delta High School he attended BYU, then served a 2 year LDS mission in Northern California. Upon returning, he continued his academic studies at the College of Southern Utah (Cedar City) where he met Barbara Moss of East Millcreek, Utah. They were married on March 20, 1964 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Upon completion of his Bachelor’s degree he was admitted to the University of Utah Medical School then served an internship at the LDS Hospital where he was recognized as the outstanding intern in 1971.  After serving a one-year residency at the LDS Hospital specializing in obstetrics and surgery he moved his family of four children (Brian, LeAnn, Jim, and Tom) to Delta, Utah where he began his medical practice.

Dr. Henrie began his practice with Dr. Melvin Lyman, then moved to his own office in the old ambulance shed near the hospital. He finished his career at the White Sage office. During his years of practice he delivered hundreds of babies and spent several years as the only physician in the county. Throughout this time, he developed a deep bond with those he worked with.

David was a member of the Gunnison Bend Ward and enjoyed teaching the gospel Doctrine class. He was an active member of the community.  He was involved with the West Millard Sheriff’s Posse, Sugarloafers Motorcycle Club, and Desert Echo Choir. David was an avid reader with interests in multiple topics including history, religion, and science. He loved music and singing and learned to play the piano in his later years. He loved the outdoors especially rabbit hunting, sailing, exploring the West Desert, and deer hunting with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; children: Brian, Milford, UT; LeAnn, Cloverdale CA; Jim (Lisa), Magna, UT; Tom (Lori), Mona, UT; sister: Ann (Gary) Dalton, Circleville; brother: Richard (Marsha), Delta; brother: Thayne (Carolyn), Sutherland; brother: Dan (Kathleen), Burley, ID; brother: John (Pennie), Sutherland; sister: Rebecca (Melvin) Carter, Hurricane.
