Burial in the Hinckley Cemetery

Neal Swensen

NealSwensen2.webNeal Swensen, age 87, passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021 in Delta, Utah He was born April 24, 1934 in Delta, Utah to Peter Randle and Hanna Esther Reeve Swensen. Neal was taught the meaning of hard work while growing up, working with his dad as a carpenter in construction.  He married the love of his life, Carma Ashby, on May 6, 1955 in the Manti Temple. Neal continued working in the construction business while he and Mom worked as custodians for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Neal was an involved and valuable member of his community. He served his as a city council member for Sandy City; and later on the town council for Hinckley Town, where his dad, Peter Randle Swensen, had previously served as mayor for 24 years.

Neal and Carma are the proud parents of seven sons. He enjoyed hunting, camping and playing sports. He loved coaching all his boys as they grew up playing sports. After retirement, he became the sexton of the Hinckley and Deseret cemeteries where he and Carma took great pride in making them beautiful. He took on the project of raising and leveling all the head stones in the Hinckley and Deseret cemeteries, which is a thankless and difficult task. The improvements made to the beauty of those special places because of his efforts are a memorial to his dedication and ability.

Neal is survived by his sons: Larry (Leslie),  Delbert (Karen),  Doug (Tracy), Tony (Sondra), Kyle (Jesica) and Kevin. He was proceeded in death by his wife: Carma; and son: Scott.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 10, at 10:00 am in the Hinckley City Cemetery. Condolences may be left at www.nicklemortuary.com
