"Chuck" Hoyt P. Hathaway, Jr

ChuchHathaway2.web“Chuck” Hoyt Parnell Hathaway Jr, age 88, passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at his home in Delta, surrounded by the love of his family. Chuck was born in Oswalt, Oklahoma on March 22, 1933 to Hoyt Parnell Hathaway and Dora May Yancey. He was raised almost his entire life by his mother and stepfather, Cecil Pierce. He grew up in California and Oregon. He enlisted early in the US Air Force and served during the Korean War. He was shipped to many destinations during his service including Greenland. While stationed in Tooele, he met his eternal sweetheart, Gayle Church. They were married on October 9, 1953 in Grantsville, and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 15, 1983.

Throughout the years, Chuck and Gayle enjoyed many adventures with their seven children, as well as business ventures including logging in California, building dams on the Columbia River and at Flaming Gorge, “Chuck’s” Paint and Body Shop” and “Chuck’s Towing”. Also vintage cars, tow trucks and anything he could take apart were a few of his interests.

Chuck gained experience in warehouse operations with the Air Force, so when a position became available at IPP, he was the perfect fit. After many years, he retired and enjoyed fishing, camping, road trips down the coast, and the Spider Tree at Sand Mountain was a particularly special destination.

After the loss of his beloved wife, Gayle, in 2016, he enjoyed many more years of special relationships and adventures with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His “Tribe” was his ultimate accomplishment and he was proud of each and everyone of them.

Chuck is survived by his children: Delynn (Lorraine) Hathaway, Hinckley; Patty (Lynn) Ashby, Delta; Wendy Stanworth, Delta; Douglas (Kim) Hathaway, Delta; Darryl (Trea) Hathaway, Running Springs, California; Richard Hathaway, Hinckley; 28 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife: Gayle; son: Dennis Hathaway; granddaughter: Kristy Hathaway; great grandson: Chase Clark.

Graveside Services with military rites will be held on Tuesday, August 10, at 11:00 am, at the Delta City Cemetery. Viewings will be held at the Nickle Mortuary on Monday, 6:00-8:00 pm; and Tuesday, 9:30-10:40 am, before traveling to the cemetery.
