Ina Marie Miner Sturlin

Ina Marie Miner Sturlin, age 93, of Jackson Hole, Wyoming passed away on September 14, 2021, at her home in EskDale, Utah. Ina was born on February 11, 1928, in Palmyra, Utah to Grant and Bernece Nielsen Miner. She grew up in Springville, Utah and graduated in 1946. The summer of 1946, she spent in Jackson Hole, Wyoming working at Teton Laundry. There she met Guy Leroy Sturlin who delivered the laundry. They were married November 25, 1946. They moved to Santa Barbara, California while Guy attended the UC Santa Barbara Business College.

In 1954, Guy was hired by the State of Wyoming to work in the Land Office at the State Capital in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They remained there until 1988 when they returned to their beloved Jackson Hole. When they moved to Cheyenne, Ina took night classes to learn bookkeeping. After completing the class, Guy and Ina ran a bookkeeping business out of their home. While raising four children, Ina volunteered at the hospital, a local art gallery and regularly at her children’s elementary school. She could always be found helping her neighbors. From mowing their lawn, to feeding their cats, taking them to medical appointments and the grocery store or passing along a loaf of fresh, hot bread. Whatever the need, Ina was always there to serve with a willing and happy heart.

In 1978, Guy and Ina bought a small café, The Coffee Cup, where Ina quickly became the heart and soul of the place. She insisted on using real potatoes for hash browns and her homemade chili and cinnamon rolls were legendary.

In 1988, Ina returned to Jackson to care for Guy’s mother until she passed in 1993. Ina immediately began volunteering five days a week at the Teton County Library in the children’s section and repairing books. In 1993, she began volunteering five days a week at the Senior Center delivering meals to home bound residents and helping in the kitchen. She quickly became the favorite of residents and workers alike. In 1999 she was awarded the Senior of the Year award and her name was inscribed on a plaque that is displayed at the Senior Center. Ina was always known as the person “who went beyond the call of duty.”

In October of 2007, Guy and Ina moved to EskDale, Utah where two of their children reside and could help aid in their care.

Ina is survived by one sister: Nancy Schultze of Orem UT; four children: Philip of Grandbury, TX; David of EskDale, UT; Christine Selvey of Ault, CO; and Mary Jo Weight of EskDale, UT; 22 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters. She was dearly loved by all and will be greatly missed.

The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Shamo and staff for the excellent care they provided for 13 years; and the staff at the Millard County Care & Rehabilitation for their two months of care in 2019.

A Burial Service was held on Wednesday, September 15, in the EskDale Cemetery.
