Bertha Elaine Jacobson

Bertha Elaine Jacobson, age 79, passed away on September 19, 2021 in American Fork, Utah. She was born on November 14, 1941 in Oak City, Utah, the third of the 8 children born to Thurlow Wilmer and Ada Anderson Jacobson. She grew up in Oak City and graduated from Delta High School. She made many lifelong friends during her time there. Bertha was always a great athlete. She attended Brigham Young University and studied Physical Education and Art – oil painting and photography. After, she returned to be with her family in Oak City. She was an outstanding player on the Oak City Women’s Softball Team. One year, she even put on a memorable show when another woman came in and they had a Ladies Wrestling Match in front of the Oak City Community Building. She enjoyed deer hunting and was able to bag many trophy deer over the years. Bertha had a wonderful garden and orchard. Her yard was full of daffodils and irises in the spring. She grew pears, peaches and apples, but was most remembered for the loads of delicious raspberries and blackberries she grew and sold to her neighbors.

Bertha was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had a deep belief in the gospel. She served as a missionary to California. She also faithfully served her callings in the Ward.

Bertha lived a quiet life and often kept to herself, but when she did get out, she enjoyed the family activities and picnics in Oak City Canyon. Bertha was very kindhearted and couldn’t even bring herself to kill a spider, often picking them up and releasing them outside instead. She had many wonderful dogs to keep her company throughout her life.

Bertha is survived by her sisters: Connie Moosman, Arizona; Marilyn (Dennis) Schurtz, Cedar City; Nancy (Tom) Oveson, Santaquin; Sheila Woodbury, Logan; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother: Cecil T. Jacobson; and sisters: Vonita “Bonnie” (Phil) Bradbury; Della Eileene Jacobson.

A Graveside Dedication Service to honor Bertha will be held on Saturday, September 25, at 2:30 pm, at the Oak City Cemetery.
