Margaret Anne "Peggy" Rybicki Overson

PeggyOverson2.webMargaret Anne “Peggy” Rybicki Overson, age 78, passed from this life into our Lord’s loving embrace on Saturday, October 16, 2021 in Provo, Utah. She was born on January 30, 1943 in Berrien Springs, Michigan to Henry and Genevieve Steimle Rybicki. She grew up on a fruit farm in Berrien County, Michigan; and attended elementary school at Chadwick in Sodus Township, Michigan. She graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School in Benton Harbor, Michigan in 1961. While in Michigan, Peggy was a 4-H member and leader, active in many school activities, and was employed by the Michigan Bell Telephone Company.

Around 1963, she was introduced to handsome Kirt Overson during a trip to Florida. They had been set up by mutual friends. They realized they were both living in Michigan, not far from eachother. Romance ensued until Kirt moved back to Utah. He realized he could not live without her, and requested she move to Utah to be with him. She did come... and the rest is history!

Peggy and Kirt were married in Lynndyl on March 13, 1965. They welcomed daughter, Kyla Anne, in 1966 and son, Troy Kirt, in 1968. Peggy raised her children, and also helped run Kirt’s construction company. Around 1973, Charlotte Morrison, Peggy Overson and Mary Mitchell bought Linda’s Crafts in Delta and changed the name to MOM’s Crafts. Around 1978, she bought out her partners and moved the business to the basement of the home in Delta that she and Kirt designed and built. Later fabric was added to the inventory. It became MOM’s Crafts and Fabrics located in a building next to the home they built. She later turned the business over to her daughter, Kyla, so she could retire and have more time to do all her “crafty” projects, of which there were multitudes!

Peggy was very active in the community and involved in her children’s Scouts, 4-H and school activities!

She was a member and lector at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Delta. She sewed many vestments for the priests over the years. In 2001, she painted a mural for the Sanctuary at Holy Family Catholic Church in Fillmore.  family. In 2008, Peggy realized her dream of visiting the Vatican in Rome, Italy. She has accumulated many travel miles to special destinations over the years and made friends wherever she went!

She was an accomplished painter in all mediums. She sewed, quilted (A LOT!), knitted, crocheted, and basically could do any crafty thing in the history of crafting! Too many awards to name! Peggy and Kirt teamed up to show their float building expertise for several years, as well as make props for  various functions in the community.

Peggy and Travis Jones initiated the Snow Goose Festival over 20 years ago. In 2004, she received the Governor’s Points of Light Award. Her commitments to the community are lengthy: Credit Union Board of Directors, member and former president of the American Legion Auxiliary and Delta Area Chamber of Commerce, recipient of the Spirit of the Chamber Award, involved in the West Millard Co. Posse with her husband, Kirt; and participated in many community events, drives, donated numerous quilts for functions, and was active in politics.

She purchased a 1957 T-Bird with which she participated in many events and received numerous awards. She also took a welding class to literally create the trophies! Those who knew her know Peggy was a “collector” of MANY THINGS!” We’ll just leave it at that! And Peggy LOVED Elvis!

Peggy and her friends Sherry Morris and Nadine Smith started “Bewitched” in Delta, a dinner theater for witchy ladies at Halloween! Other interests included a birthday lunch group, and since 1997 the “Middle of Nowhere Investment Club” (MONIC).

Whatever Peggy did, she put her all into making Delta “the greatest place to live on Earth!” She will be truly missed by family and so many friends too numerous to mention!

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Kirt; son: Troy; and stepson: Wayne Overson. She is survived by her daughter: Kyla and Russell Skougard of Delta; stepdaughter: Darlene (Harold) Helgesen of Murray; granddaughter: Wanja (Vince) Anderson of Salt Lake; sister: Rosie (Terry) Starn of DeWitt, Michigan; brother: Rick (Shirley) Rybicki of Eau Claire, Michigan; and numerous members of the Overson and Rybicki families.

May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed though the mercy of God rest in peace.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 28, at 1:00 pm, at the RJ Law Community Building, 75 West Main Street. A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 5:30 pm. Viewings will be held Wednesday, 6-8 pm, at the Nickle Mortuary; and Thursday, 11:30-12:40, prior to the service. Friends are also invited to view the recorded video of the service.
