Larry Eugene Pauly, age 73, left this world on December 14, 2021. He lived a life worth celebrating. Everyone who knew Larry knew that animal agricultural was his passion. Larry was born on February 26, 1948 in Torrington, Wyoming, and grew up on a small dairy farm in Corvallis, Montana where he helped tend and milk the families cows. His father was a big supporter of the 4-H programs, and when Larry was 8 years old his father asked him which of the heifers he wanted to show for his first year in 4-H, Larry responded “I want to show sheep”. A short while later Larry was the proud owner of 3 speckle faced ewes, which he went on to show at their county fair. It was the start of one of his lifelong loves.
In October of 1983 he married his wonderful wife, Linda Louise Beeman in Loomis, Washington. Together they began raising a flock of purebred sheep which consisted of Suffolks, Hampshires, and Dorsets. They also raised range rams. Larry loved to attended the shows and sales of most of those sheep scattered across the Western United States. He served as a board member in many sheep organizations during his life including the National Suffolk Sheep Association, Oregon Purebred Sheep Association (President), and he also served as Chairman for the Bakersfield Ram Sale. Larry was inducted into the Suffolk Hall of Fame in 2018. While the sheep were important to Larry he also loved the cattle industry, and he bought cattle for numerous feed yards across the Northwest.
Larry loved the outdoors and would often recount hunting stories from his youth. His favorite vacations were spent fishing in Alaska with his wife. Another past time he enjoyed was cheering on his favorite sports teams, including the Utah Jazz and the BYU Cougars. Larry had an appreciation for all sports, but football was nearest to his heart. He would often tell stories of his time playing the sport in high school.
Larry has touched many lives while on this earth, and has inspired many young people to pursue their goals in the agricultural industry. He has been a mentor, advocate, partner, and supporter to many in the sheep industry, and was often the first to step in and lend a hand to get started. Family was very important to him and he loved to spend time with his grandchildren whether talking about sports or animals or school. Larry, will always be remembered as a beloved Husband, father, brother, and grandfather.
Larry is survived by his wife: Linda; sons: Larry Michael Pauly, Lance Pauly and Layne Pauly; step-sons: Marty Gage and Stacy Gage; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; sister: Donna (husband-Don) Murphy; brother: Gordon Pauly.
