Jerry Paul Trumbo

Jerry Paul Trumbo, age 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Delta, Utah on September 11, 2022. Jerry was born in Mangum, Oklahoma on May 21, 1937 in his grandmother’s home in Mangum, Oklahoma. He was the only child of William Ernest and Mattie Pauline Yarbrough Trumbo. They moved to Sacramento, California when he was just a toddler and he grew up there. He graduated from high school and American River College in the area. His family often returned to Oklahoma to visit family over the years, especially his Yarbrough and Trumbo cousins (that all called him “JP” or “Jerry Paul”).

Jerry married his first wife Carolyn. They had 3 daughters: Kim, Lisa and Jill. They later divorced. He later married Jaida Dee Rice on July 23, 1965 in San Francisco. They were also sealed in the Oakland California LDS Temple in December of 1966. They have been able to spend over 57 wonderful years together. Jaida was grateful to become part of his existing family, loving Kim, Lisa and Jill as her own. Jerry and Jaida had 3 more children together: Angela, DeLite and Jerry. They loved making special memories together with their children—especially spending time at the beaches in Oregon and Washington, the mountains, or the Washougal River as they got closer to retirement. Jerry really liked seeing all the wildlife. In 2016, they moved to Delta, Utah. Jerry really enjoyed the small close-knit town and made wonderful friendships with many in the community.

Jerry was proud of his service in the Navy. He flew on reconnaissance aircraft. His job on the plane was involving electronics, and taking pictures of Vietnam area before the Vietnam War started. He went to some top secret locations in his service and wouldn’t even tell us where they were 50 years later.

Jerry always liked to be outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing with his kids and grandkids. One of his favorite outings with the grandkids was taking them to the Rainbow Trout Farm on Mt. Hood, Oregon. He also enjoyed sports—he was in track and basketball in high school, he played softball while we were growing up, he liked to golf with Mom and his son, Jerry, and was a basketball referee, softball umpire, and served as the Girls Fast Pitch Softball Umpire in Chief for several years in Vancouver. He loved watching almost ANY sport on TV—football and college softball were some of his favorites. He loved to tell stories about when he was growing up and adventures he had. He also served as Executive Secretary to the Bishop in his ward in Vancouver and held other callings over the years.

He loved Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Peanut Patties, Chile Rellenos, Lays Potato Chips, and almost any kind of seafood. He liked to play card games and was very competitive. He was always good at math. He was an honest, honorable man who never told a lie. He had a mischievous smile and a contagious laugh and he loved ‘DAD JOKES’. He enjoyed playing with the kids and grandkids and would get down on the floor and let them climb all over him. He even let his daughters style his hair (imagine ponytails all over in multiple colors) even though he was very concerned about his hair always being in place. He was incredible caring and never did anything to intentionally hurt anyone and was always willing to help when called upon.
We love you, Dad.

Jerry is survived by his wife: Jaida Trumbo, Delta; daughters: Kimberly Williams, Lincoln, California; Lisa (Randy) Boatman, Sacramento, California; Jill (Armando) Perez, Rocklin, California; Angela (Brett) Maze, Saginaw, Texas; DeLite (Russell) Gamble, Delta; son: Jerry G. (Elisa) Trumbo, Toledo, Washington; 14 grandchildren: Phillip and Patrick Boatman, Sarah (Chris) Dizmang; Christopher and Alissa Perez; Ryan and Nathan Maze; Savannah (Justin) Jeffery, Aidan, Gabrielle and Zachary Gamble; William, Emma and Gabriel Trumbo, and one grandson on the way; great grandson: Jameson Dizmang.

Burial with Military Rites will be held on Friday, September 16, in the Delta City Cemetery. The video of the family service is available through this link.
