Sharon Lieuwen Shumway Steele Western, age 88, passed away on November 7, 2022 in Taylorsville, Utah. Sharon was born September 16, 1934 in Tropic Utah, the second of 5 children, born to James Howard and Sarah Lieuwen Savage Shumway.
Sharon graduated from Millard High School in 1952 where she excelled in Speech and Debate. Later that same year she married her sweetheart, Arlo D. Steele, on June 5 in the Manti LDS Temple. To that union Mary Shannon, Matthew, Lieuwen and Stephanie were born. Arlo passed away in January of 1960.
Sharon later married Sheldon Western on November 19, 1960 in Delta, Utah. This new family welcomed five more children: Howard, Dwight, Myron, Sarah, and Darlene.
Sharon was a faithful active member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. She served in many callings and was an outstanding example of compassionate service. She served a genealogy mission in San Diego and the genealogy offices in Salt Lake City.
Sharon is survived by sisters: Ardis (Ed) Brady, Beth (Tom) Peterson, Rachel Marshall, Revo (Theron) Robb; and brother: Lafe (Joyce) Prows; children: Mary Shannon (Whitt) Steele Lovell, Matthew Steele, Lieuwen (Doug) Steele Boyd, Stephanie (Dee) Steele King, Howard (Betty Jo) Western, Dwight (Karen) Western, Myron Western, Sarah (Jonathan) Western Boone, Darlene Western Barnes, 30 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her stepmother: Alta Shumway; brothers: Ron (and wife Rosa) Shumway, Howard Buckley; husbands: Arlo D. Steele, James Sheldon Western; daughter-in-law: Loree Pace; great granddaughter: Presley Bladh; great grandson: Pierce Olsen.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 11, at 11:00 am, at the Hinckley LDS Chapel, 188 North Main St. A Viewing will be held at 9:30-10:40 am, prior to the service. Friends unable to attend are invited to view the recorded video of the Service. Burial will be in the Sutherland Cemetery.
