Carrie Juanita Stroud Barney

CarrieBarney2.webOn New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2022, Carrie Juanita Stroud Barney passed away in St. George at the age of 94. She was born on November 23, 1928 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the eldest of the two daughters born to Lawrence Allen and Della Estella Newkirk Stroud. She spent her early years in Missouri, until her family moved to Los Angeles when she was around six. As a young woman she excelled at and enjoyed dancing.

After high school, Carrie attended Los Angeles State, then served an LDS Mission in Illinois. After her mission, she enrolled at Brigham Young University and earned a Bachelors Degree in Education. While at BYU, she met the love of her life, Ralph D Barney. They were married on June 5, 1953 in the Manti LDS Temple. After graduating, they made there home in San Jose, California. She went to work as an elementary school teacher, working with 4th to 6th graders. After a few years, Carrie and Ralph decided to begin enlarging their family. During the early 1960's they adopted a son, Clay, and daughter, Joanie.

Carrie was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served in many callings, especially in the Relief Society. She loved to stay informed on the news and current events, and enjoyed having long conversations on many subjects. She excelled at gardening, and was a collector of many things, especially US coins.

After her husband’s passing on February 8, 1997, she moved to St. George, Utah. She enjoyed traveling during her later years, she made many good friends during her time in St. George.

Carrie is survived by 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband: Ralph; daughter: Joanie Smith; younger sister: Clara.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 5, at 11:00 am at the Nickle Mortuary, 190 S Center St, Delta. A Viewing will be held 9:30-10:40 am, prior to the service. Friends unable to attend are invited to view the recorded video of the Service. Burial in the Delta City Cemetery.
