Curtis Elmer Smith

CurtisSmith2.webOn January 25, 2023, Curtis Elmer Smith left this earth to join his late wife, Frances, in his eternal home. Curtis was born on June 7, 1930 in Forbes, North Dakota to Adoph "Abe" and Dorothy Knutta Fulton Smith. His family moved to Southern California when he was a child. He married the love of his life, Frances Dee Chaffin, on December 18, 1949. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple, after joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and Frances celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary a few months before Frances passed away, in November of 2009.

Curtis was a hard worker his whole life, working many jobs to support his family which grew to include 8 children: 6 sons and 2 daughters. Eventually his posterity grew to include 34 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren. Family has always been the most important thing to Curtis and he loved being with them any chance he got, especially on many fun family reunions.

The first half of his married life was spent in Southern California, where they made many lifelong friends and wonderful memories. In 1981, he and Frances and their youngest 2 children moved to Delta, Utah and opened “The Pizza House” restaurant, and ran it for over 20 years. He loved being the pizza man and enjoyed being part of the community.

As an active member of his church, Curtis served in many different positions. His favorite callings were in the Scouting Program. Hiking and exploring were some of his favorite things to do, especially with his own boys.

Curtis is survived by his children: Russell (Christine), Brian (Julie), Wendy Kelly, Jennifer Pardone, Matthew (Jane); and daughter-in-law: Linda Smith. Curtis was preceded in death by his dear wife: Frances; son and daughter-in-law: David and Janis Smith; son: Robin; son: Corey; son-in-law: Lou Pardone; great granddaughter: Elizah Smith; and his brother: Hank and sister: Norma.

Funeral Services will be on Saturday, February 11, at 11:00am, at the Delta 3rd Ward Chapel, 197 S 200 W, Delta. A Viewing will be held, 9:30-10:40, prior to the service. Friends unable to attend are invited to view the recorded video of the service. Interment will be at the Delta City Cemetery.
