Dean William John Meyers

Dean William John Meyers, aged 88, passed away on February 16, 2023 at his home in Delta, Utah. He was born on August 18, 1934 in Baraboo, Wisconsin; the eighth of 12 children born to Roy Edwin and Ida Isabel Zimmerly Meyers.

After graduating, he enlisted in the US Air Force in January of 1953. He was trained as a radio technician, and after was sent to Korea from January 1954 – January 1955. On returning to the US, he was stationed at Waverly, Iowa for two years. While there, he went home for a visit to Baraboo, where he met Doloris Schmidtgall on a blind date. After their second date, he knew he wanted to marry her. He came home nearly every weekend thereafter until their marriage on February 19, 1956.

Both Dean and Doloris were of the Lutheran Faith until 1960, when they joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Dean worked as an electronics technician for the FAA for many years, maintaining radar for air traffic. He repaired appliances on the side. While living in Kremmling, Colorado, he served as Branch President for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for about 6 years, until they moved to Delta, Utah. A few years later, he quit his government job and started his own business, “Dean’s Appliance.”

Dean enjoyed going to the hills and hunting for treasure. He mostly found trilobites, one of which is in the Smithsonian Institute. His kids teased him that his gold was in his bugs.

Dean and Doloris were blessed with eight children, seven girls and one boy. Doloris passed away October 9, 2003 and is buried in the Delta, Utah Cemetery.

Dean met Joyce Ann Pierce on an online dating service. They fell in love and were married on October 8, 2005. They had 17 years together. During this time they served as temple workers at the Payson, Utah Temple.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers; 2 sisters; his wife, Doloris; a granddaughter; and a stepson, Randy.
