Dell LaVoy Starley, Jr.

Dell LaVoy Starley Jr., age 79, passed away on March 20, 2023 at his home in Fillmore, Utah. He was born March 3, 1944 to Dell LaVoy Starley Sr. and Renee Edwards Starley in Fillmore. LaVoy graduated from Millard High School in 1962. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Utah University and a Master of Science degree from Utah State University. He served 44 years in the community as an educator; teaching industrial arts in Cedar City, electronics and mathematics at Millard High School, principal of Fillmore Middle School, and finishing his career as Administrator of Delta Technical Center. He spent 30 years as a respected wrestling coach. He also served in his community as a welder/machinist, handyman, scout leader, and dear friend always willing to help his neighbor.

In addition to holding various church positions, LaVoy served 3 missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called to the Sharon Vermont, New Hampshire, Manchester Mission with Patsy from April 2011 to October 2012. His second mission was the Utah St. George Mission with Susan from February 2017 to August 2018. He was called to serve his third mission with Susan to the North Dakota Bismarck Mission from May 2022 to November 2022.

LaVoy is predeceased by his wife: Patsy Bushnell Starley; and sons: Steven LaVoy Starley Sr. and Joshua Davies Startin. He is survived by his wife: Susan Startin Starley; children: Janette Starley Conz (Mark), Brian Clinton Starley (Laura), Denice Starley (LaVelle), Lisa Starley (Edmund), Jad G Startin (Claudia), Marcie Starley Wilde (Jason), Marcia Starley Anderson (Bryan), Cody Kesler Startin (Aubry), Jason Kyle Starley (Trishia), and Kenzie Lauren Price; siblings: Wayne Starley (Jeanne), Helen Quarnberg (Bert), John Starley (Sharla), Scott Starley (Gerri), Geneal Mays (Ray), Janeen Hare (Mike); 39 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A service in his loving memory will be held on Saturday, March 25, at 11:00 am, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Stake Center located at 25 South 300 West, Fillmore. Viewings will be held at the LDS Stake Center Building on Friday evening, 6:30-8:00 pm; and Saturday, 9:30-10:40 am, prior to the service. Friends unable to attend are invited to view the recorded video of the service. Burial in the Meadow Cemetery.
