Emilie Mae Wilde Chandler

Emilie Mae Wilde Chandler, age 93, resident of Delta, and previous long time resident of Provo, completed her life’s journey May 28, 2013, at the Millard County Care Center in Delta. Emilie was born May 8, 1920 in Clear Creek, Utah, to Earl Heber and Loyas Ora Christensen Wilde. Her early years were spent in Hiawatha, Carbon County. She graduated from Carbon High School in Price, and attended BYU for three years, studying English and art. Emilie was a secretary by profession, and began her career at the office of Kaiser Coal Mine in Sunnyside. She transferred to Kaiser Steel Corporation offices in Fontana, California. At the time of her retirement she was secretary to the forest supervisor of the Uinta National Forest in Provo. Emilie loved literature and was a voracious reader. Hobbies she enjoyed included making porcelain dolls, including the clothes, and knitting. She was an excellent seamstress. One of the highlights of her life was having her grandson, Scott Thomas Chandler, live with her in Provo for 7½ while he attended a Utah School for the Deaf and Blind extension in Orem. She also took care of her granddaughter, Michelle Todd Staley, for several years while her mother worked. Emilie was a life long and active member of the LDS Church, holding various positions. One of her favorite church callings was singing in the choir.

Emilie is survived by her daughter: Jamie Chandler of Kearns; son: Dr. Thomas Earl (Karen) Chandler of Delta; brother: Robert Earl (Renee) Wilde of Provo; grandson: Scott Thomas Chandler; and granddaughter: Jennifer Chandler of Delta; granddaughter: Michelle Todd (Joshua) Staley of Taylorsville; and great-grandson: Maxwell Joshua Staley. She was preceded in death by her parents: Earl Heber and Loyas Ora Christensen Wilde; brothers: William Bert Wilde, and David Christensen Wilde.

The family expresses sincere thanks to Stephen W. Shamo, MD, and the staff of the Millard County Care Center for the loving and professional care they gave to Emilie during the last 4½ years of her life.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 1, at 12 noon, at the Delta Stake Center, 125 S White Sage Avenue. Viewing will be held from 10:30-11:40 AM, prior to service. Burial will be in the Delta City Cemetery.
