Maylon Fred Erickson

Our father, Maylon Fred Erickson, returned to our father in heaven on May 22, 2023, at the age of 90. He passed away peacefully in Delta, Utah and will be sorely missed. He will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Dad was born in Deseret, Utah, on February 23, 1933 to Willard Eldon & Bertrice Dewsnup Erickson. He was the middle of 3 sons, and loved to help with the family’s farm. He attended a couple years of college in agriculture, before serving an LDS mission (the Southwest Indian Mission) in Gallup, New Mexico. He then served his country in the Korean War as an Army Sergeant for 2+ years.

He married Ladawn Gayle Mecham on April 22, 1959, in the Manti LDS Temple (div. 1972). They raised three children together: David, Kathy, and Judy. During their early years, Maylon worked in an autobody shop in Orem, Utah. Later, they returned back to Delta, Utah and Maylon worked at the Hay Mill for several years, then moving on to work for the school district. He married Leslie Christiansen on November 17, 1977, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple (div.1991). They also raised three children: Merrill, Natalie, and Jennie. He also took on many little jobs in Delta, even after he retired.

Maylon loved working with his many farm animals, enjoyed woodworking, camping, dancing, the “old big band” concerts, and serving in the LDS church. But most of all he loved serving his family, friends, and others in any way he could.

Maylon was preceded in death by his parents, both brothers: Ralph and Lavoy; great-grandsons: Oakley Turner and James Jensen. He is survived by his 6 children: David (Shelly) Erickson, Kathy (Lance) Mooney, Judy Erickson, Merrill Erickson, Natalie Erickson, and Jennie (Andrew) Nicolls; 24 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Friday, June 2, at 12:30 pm, at the Delta LDS Stake Center, 125 South White Sage Ave, in Delta, Utah. A Viewing will be held 11:00-12:10 prior to the service. Friends unable to attend are invited to view the recorded video of the service. Interment will be at the Deseret City Cemetery, with full military honors following the services.
