Danie Ray Kersey

Danie Ray Kersey was born December 1, 1943 to Billie and Marie Kersey in Louisville, Kentucky. He was the second of three children and grew up in Bowling Green, Kentucky among numerous relatives.

At 16, Danie enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for 20 years and retired honorably.  When in Dover, Delaware early in his USAF career, he was playing pool and dancing with friends at the USO, he saw Linda on the dance floor and had to dance with her. They met up many times to dance together and their relationship progressed. Linda and Danie were married in June of 1968 and later welcomed their two daughters, Dena and Sarah.  He took every opportunity to continue dancing with Linda throughout their 55 years of marriage and would frequently remark that he loved dancing with her as no one moved as beautifully with him as she did.

Danie was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, and friend. He had a sly and irreverent sense of humor. He was a serial hobbyist with interests to include: pool, golfing, horses, fishing, flint knapping, Devil Dust, beer brewing, motorcycling, gardening, and quilting (to name just a few he fully embraced over the years).  He was also a voracious reader, he once read the dictionary, thesaurus, and an entire set of encyclopedias as he couldn't find anything else to read.  Danie never met a stranger he wouldn't start talking to (and not know how to stop - lol).  He loved exploring nature and traveling with Linda on their motorcycle and in their motorhome.

Danie passed from health complications the afternoon of August 4, 2023 with his wife and daughters at his side.  He is survived by his adoring wife, daughters, and son-in-law.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 19, at 2:00 pm, at the Nickle Mortuary, 190 S Center St, Delta. Refreshments and opportunity to share memories will follow the service at the Delta Community Church, 107 South 200 West, Delta. Those unable to attend are invited to view the recorded video of the service.

The family would welcome donations in his name to the American Lung Association to aid in the research and treatment of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
