Leah Ruth Dalton Hollingshead

LeahHollingshead2.webLeah Ruth Dalton Hollingshead, age 80, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024 in Delta, Utah. She was born on December 18, 1943, in Minersville, Utah, the second of four children born to Leland William “Bill” and Margaret Williams Dalton. She grew up in Minersville surrounded by three brothers, but she was every bit a lady. As a teenager, she participated in and won some of the community beauty pageants. She graduated from Beaver High School, and while there, also won the heart of Dee Ray Hollingshead. During their courtship, the whole town of Minersville would know when Dee was coming to pick up Leah, as the sound of his 1956 Chevy with extended pipes would roar through the air. They were married on July 7, 1961 in the St. George LDS Temple. They shared their lives together for almost 59 years, when Dee unexpectedly passed away on February 16, 2020.

They began their life in Bountiful, Utah while Dee attended Technical School. They also began expanding their family with two children: Wade and Jan. They lived in California for couple of years, but soon returned to Utah when Dee was employed with AT&T in Delta.

Leah’s most favorite activity was shopping. She loved spending hours roaming the mall, even if she was only just browsing. However, there were a few occasions where she returned with a large haul of new items in tow. Leah loved to be fashionable and current. She also enjoyed making her home of place of fun. She was a first in her neighborhood to have a backyard pool, and was pleased to have friends come over to enjoy it.

During her later years, Leah enjoyed the activities and time she was able to spend with her son, Wade. She also loved getting out and driving around the community with her daughter, Jan; especially on a drink run. Leah loved animals, especially her dogs. Her favorite was a little pomeranian named Chachi. She will also be remembered for creating beautiful artificial flower arrangements, and for her strong testimony of the gospel.

Leah is survived by her children: Wade Dee Hollingshead and Jan (Michael) Van DeVanter, both of Delta; grandchildren: Tara (Kevyn) Grimes, Eden, Utah; Jacy James Edwards, Delta; Blade Dee Edwards, Provo; great-grandchildren: Kanyon Grimes, Madyson Raye Grimes; brothers: Billy (Janielle) Dalton, Minersville; and Keith (Marsha) Dalton, Beaver. She is preceded in death by her brother: Stanley Dalton.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 3 at 11:00 am, at the Nickle Mortuary Chapel, 190 South Center Street, Delta. Friends may gather 10:00-10:40 am, prior to the service. Those unable to attend are invited to view the recorded video of the service. Interment will be in the Delta City Cemetery.
