Delene Black Jackson

Delene Black Jackson, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend passed away May 6, 2024 at the age of 79 in St. George, Utah after a courageous battle with cancer. She leaves behind a legacy of love of family, friendship, service and faith.

Delene was born on May 1, 1945 in Delta, Utah to Joseph Dee Black and Eunice Maxfield Black. She had many adventures growing up on a farm with her siblings. She then attended Utah State University where she met the love of her life and her eternal companion, Doug Jackson. They were married in Logan, Utah on December 16, 1966. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple.

As a young couple, Delene and Doug moved to Peoria, Illinois, for Doug's employment, where two of their children were born. They then moved to Hong Kong, where another child was born, and then to Salt Lake City where they raised their family. After Doug's retirement, they moved to St. George full time.

Delene loved to travel and, together, she and Doug traveled to many countries for both fun and service. She was a dedicated and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She used her time and talents serving in many different organizations in the church. She and Doug served a full time mission in Hong Kong from 2004-2005 and subsequently served for six years in humanitarian projects in South America and Eastern Europe. We will always value her example of selfless love and service.

Delene was a talented quilter and cross-stitcher. Her entire family has benefited from her talents. Every child, every new bride and groom, every new grandchild has been blessed with multiple beautiful handmade gifts. She loved baking cookies with her grandchildren and thinking up fun games and crafts for them to have fun doing together. We are so grateful for these memories.

She was an amazing friend to many. She was an avid golfer, loved Jeeping with her husband, scrapbooking, multiple crafts and family history. We will all miss her sweet, kind, patient and loving presence. Anybody who was fortunate enough to have known her will never forget her.

Delene is survived by her loving husband: Robert Douglas Jackson; her three children: Kelly Jackson Fredman and her husband, Stuart; Gregory Jackson and his wife, Patty; and Steven Jackson and his wife, Emma; sister: Paula Finlinson and her husband, Scott; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; also many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother: Russell Black, who we believe are having a glorious reunion in eternal peace.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 10, at 1:00 PM, at the Deseret-Oasis LDS Ward Chapel, 3423 West 4500 South. A reception for family and friends will be held at the church prior to the service, 12:00-12:40 PM. Those unable to attend are invited to view the recorded video of the service. Burial will follow at the Deseret Cemetery, where she will be interred beside her parents, grandparents and great grandparents.
