Rosalie Lovell Nielson

RosalieNielson2.webRosalie Lovell Nielson, age 67, passed away on November 21, 2024 surrounded by her family at her home in Oak City, Utah. She was born on December, 19, 1956 in Delta, Utah to Ray F and Rosamay Webb Lovell. She grew up in Oak City the second oldest of five - two brothers and two sisters. She graduated from Delta High School, and then worked as a nurses aide at the old Delta Hospital. Growing up on a farm in Oak City she gained a deep love of horses and mountains. She would often enjoy spending time around the creeks and meadows above Oak City. On one of those trips, she ran into a group of kids her age playing frisbee in the meadow. She picked up the frisbee and threw it to young man -- apparently sweeping him off his feet. Over the next few days they were inseparable; and by the sixth day, they were engaged.

Rosalie married Steven Lawrence Nielson on September 3, 1976 in the Manti LDS Temple. Steven built the young couple a small box home to start their family, and continued to add to it over the years as their family grew to add 7 children. Steven built it into a beautiful home, and Rosalie filled it with love. Steven started a contracting company, and being so well organized, Rosalie handled the finances. They called the business ‘Mountain Rose’, named after her. Rosalie also worked for Oak City Town, reading the water meters for 34 years.

Rosalie had a strong testimony of the gospel, and faithfully served many calling in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her favorites were her callings in the primary. She loved musicals and adored attending shows at the Hales Theater. Recording her experiences was very important to her. She kept a daily journal from age 16. She also enjoyed scrapbooking with her husband. They have over 40 volumes of their special memories. She was an example of quiet strength and taught her children to work hard. Her greatest joy was her family, loving to spend time with her children, grandchildren and her brothers and sisters. She enjoyed taking family on  many drives up Oak City Canyon with a favorite Diet Coke.

Rosalie is survived by her husband: Steven; daughters: Kimberly (Robert) Julander, Panguitch, UT; Stephanie (Marty) Thomas, Tabiona, UT; Nikki Kimber, Cedar City; Crystal (Travis) Fisher, Clarkston, UT; sons: Nathan (Amy) Nielson, Oak City; Kyle (Emilie) Nielson, Elk Ridge, UT; Jeremy Nielson, Oak City; 31 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; brothers: Richard (Karen) Lovell; Ed (Jeanne) Lovell; sister: Myrt (Kevin) Gardner. She is preceded in death by her parents: Ray & Rosamay Lovell; sisters: Bonnie Rice; Mary Nielson; Marge Choules.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, November 30, at 11:00 am, at the Oak City LDS Chapel, 35 East Center St. Viewings were held at the Oak City LDS Church on Friday evening, 6:30-8:00 pm; and Saturday, 9:30-10:40 am, prior to the service. Those unable to attend are invited to view the recorded video of the service. Burial followed at the Oak City Cemetery.
