Glena LaMar Johnson Moody, age 97, passed away in Mapleton, Utah on December 7, 2024. She was born on October 17, 1927 in Tabiona, Utah to John Lamar Johnson and Reba Turnbow Johnson. She graduated from Duchesne High School in 1944.
After graduating from high school at age 16, she attended BYU for a year. At this time, she took a job with Orem City in the Clerk’s office, where she had many wonderful experiences. In 1951, a mutual friend set Glena up on a blind date with Joseph M. Moody, from Delta, Utah. This newly returned missionary swept her off her feet, and they married on January 30, 1952, in the Salt Lake Temple. Almost immediately after, they headed to Baltimore, Maryland, where Joe was stationed while serving in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Soon after, they were transferred to San Francisco and welcomed their first child. They returned to Utah and settled in Delta, where they bought their first and only home and raised their family, which would eventually include five children.
Glena was very involved with music her entire life. She was a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and at the age of 12 started playing piano for church and continued this service until the age of 96. She was an exceptional piano teacher, training hundreds of students for over 60 years. Glena, along with Joe, collaborated on many civic, school, and town musical productions. They were one of the originators of the West Millard Oratorical Society. This society performed The Messiah every Christmas season, with Joe directing and Glena playing the piano. Glena continued to share her musical talents, as a pianist and organist, with the community whenever there was a need. She was a hard worker and led with spunk and love in all of her endeavors. Glena was loved deeply by all who knew her and blessed the lives of many.
Glena is survived by her five children: Becky (Wade) Christofferson of Dublin, Ohio; J. Ward (Cindy) Moody of American Fork, Utah; Dean (Allison) Moody of Payson, Utah; Reed (Lynnette) Moody of Hoytsville, Utah; Mindy (Ron) Flake of Snowflake, Arizona; brothers: Lorus, Lee, and Richard. She was proceeded in death by her husband: Joe; and her parents: John and Reba; sister: Wilda Smith; and grandson: Logan Flake. Glena also left a beautiful legacy of 27 grandchildren and 71 great-grandchildren.
