Shirley Bunker Armstrong

October 20, 1925 — March 29, 2014

Shirley Bunker Armstrong, age 88, passed away March 29, 2014 in Spanish Fork, Utah. She was born on October 20, 1925 in Delta, Utah to James Lang and Ruby Florina Draper Bunker. She married George Raymond Armstrong, Jr., on June 19, 1946 in Delta. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple. They had two daughters: Kathlynn and Becky. He died February 6, 1971.

Shirley graduated from Delta High School. After, she worked as a secretary at the Topaz Japanese Internment Camp. Her job required her to attend a training in Salt Lake City. During that trip she met her future husband, George Raymond Armstrong, Jr. After their marriage, the couple moved to Chandler, Arizona. There she enjoyed growing her beautiful garden, eventually serving as President of the Chandler, AZ Garden Club. She also returned to school and earned an Associate of Business degree from Gilbert Community College. After her husband passed away, she returned to Delta. Several years, she served as a judge of the flower growing competition at the Millard County Fair. Shirley loved her family, oil painting, flower arranging, and her garden full of roses.

Shirley is survived by her daughters: Kathlynn Armstrong, Sun City, AZ; Becky (Tim) Kelly, Spanish Fork; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; brother: Michael Bunker, Ely, NV. She is preceded in death by her brother: Bryce Bunker; sister: Raema Bunker.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 5, at 11:00 am, at the Delta 3rd Ward Chapel, 197 S. 300 W. A viewing will be held 9:30-10:40 am, prior to the service. Burial will be in the Delta City Cemetery.
